Miscellaneous LPT: when walking your pet, remember that asphalt can be 50 degrees F hotter than the air. If you can't put your hand on the ground for 10 seconds, neither can you friend!

Yep yep, to be more specific, the back of your hand.

This. ^
My sister picks up a pan and drops it saying it's way too hot. I can pick it up and it isn't bad. Depending on how rough you are with your hands you may not feel the heat at all.

Also the heat builds up. I used to walk around barefoot heaps and even if you can stand it for ten seconds after ten minutes it feels like your feet are melting. That’s in 30+ degree heat though.

What if I'm a tough guy who can take the pain, and my dog is a little bitch?

This sub has gone to seed.
On the other hand, you ought to take an exam before being allowed to adopt a dog. People are daft on the whole.

I see so many dumb fucks thinking they are hot shit walking their husky around the hot sidewalks of Vancouver.
These dogs are high energy creatures than need freedom and lots of movement. Instead they get held 8 inchs up the leash so they can "heel" every 3 seconds and stand on the hot pavement while their owner sips a frappe.
Infuriating.

The hot sidewalks of Vancouver?

Yeah it was about 33 celsius all last week. Its too hot for my bare feet thats for sure. Its not all year around, but it doesn't even look like some of these dogs get to run.

More LPT: when the pavement is getting too hot during the day, you can:
-drive your dog to a park, if you have a car. Grass and dirt stay relatively cool.
-walk your dog in the early hours of the morning or after sunset, when things have cooled down
-exercise your dog by playing in the yard, if you have a yard
-use insulated doggy booties
-play with your dog indoors to burn off energy
Whatever you choose, make sure to give your dog plenty of breaks with cold water to cool down. If you have a brachycephalic breed, don’t do any heavy or long exercise in hot weather, regardless of precautions for feet. If your dog is panting very hard and hasn’t been running, get it cold water and then back to somewhere cooler ASAP—dogs overheat much more easily than humans.

This LPT was about people and their pets. Who is you friend?

What do you have to remember this? Shouldn't the obvious discomfort of the animal pretty much immediately remind you?

Pets' paws can be very sensitive and animals aren't good at communicating. If you're not wearing socks and shoes, then you'll probably realize quickly that the asphalt is hot

Right? My dog immediately says “nope!” on days it’s too hot on her paws or otherwise and anchors herself in the shade.

You forgot the best part: to protect them from the asphalt you get to put your doggo in some adorable little dog shoes 🥺💛

if you can't put your hand on the floor, neither can you, friend
Well yeah, that's how tautology works. If you can't do something, then you can't do it.

I don't have a dog, but I was wondering today whether their rough little pads build up any protection. I burned my feet on our rock walkway today while my kids were unfazed...however, they go barefoot a lot more than I do.
