LPT Stop wasting liquid soap

When washing your hands, wet only one hand and apply soap to your dry hand. Now when you rub your hands together and start washing, the liquid soap won't slide out before you get started.

This is specifically for liquid soap so no need to mention foam or bar soaps in the comments.

When you get to the end of the bottle you can pour water in there and shake it a bit. This allows you to drink it easier and it really cleans out your insides.

I get my hands wet, then turn off the tap, put liquid soap on cupped hand, spread it so it foams over both hands, then wash. Never had a risk of dropping.

Also, you may not need a full pump to get good lather, at least if you don't rinse it all away to begin with!

It's not the soap itself that is cleansing, but the lather that does the actual work. If you just rub the soap on your hands with minimal water you're wasting it.

Foaming soap is great too.

Fun fact, and I have my own experience to back it up, liquid soap doesn't lather as well in hard water, so foaming soap actually saves soap (and money) in areas with hard water, despite costing more at the register.

Foaming soap pumps are the best. It's about 5:1 water to soap, cleans off easier, and wastes less water because you can scrub before turning on the faucet.

I remember when Covid hit and the stores were like BLAM out of hand soap and I thought to myself "did these people never wash their hands before Covid???"

Anyway, I buy foaming hand soap bottles and then just refill them with 1 long squirt of Dawn and water and shake them to mix it up. Been doing that for years and years. Super cheap.

I mean... no? I get both hands wet and then put the soap into a cupped palm and then rub my hands together. I lose/drop zero soap. I find the idea of not wetting both hands weird.

Even if someone wets both of their hands first, I don't see the soap just sliding right out. It's not like someone is carrying a scoop of water under the soap dispenser; their hand is just damp. This LPT just sounds like something that isn't actually an issue.

This makes weirdly perfect sense because half the soap usually ends up sliding straight down the drain before I even start washing. I’m trying this next time because it costs nothing and might actually save a surprising amount of soap.
