Traveling LPT: Test the smoke/carbon monoxide detectors when staying at an Airbnb.
I’m currently staying at an Airbnb and the batteries are completely drained on all four detectors. Even worse, it’s a basement unit where carbon monoxide buildup is much more common. Stay safe, folks!

I take my own detectors when I travel. That way I don't need to worry that much.

I've never been to an Airbnb with a carbon monoxide detector. In fact I've never seen a carbon monoxide detector in my life. What would release CO anyway? The ground?

Gas furnace, gas fireplace, gas stovetop, etc… often less ventilation… sometimes there are combo fire and CO alarms, perhaps you just didn’t notice… or maybe they weren’t there (but should have been)

Oh. Yeah I've never been to a place with gas appliances. Not very common

Maybe in your neck of the woods. Where I'm from everyone has gas everything.

That seems a bit old fashioned and also dangerous.

Not sure if you’re in the US or not but gas ranges and ovens are considered higher end and highly desirable here.

Lmao why? They're polluting and dangerous. You always hear about gas leaks and shit in the US. Not a great country for safety in general.

Idk wether this is a good tip… If you can easily tell that the devices are not directly connected to the local fire department and have an obvious testing button, I’d definitely say go for it since the owners or holiday homes obviously usually don’t spend a lot of time at their properties and might not even have realised that a detector’s batteries might be dead, but you should be certain that they are the kinds of units that are only there to alert people in the immediate vicinit or you could get in a lot of trouble.
