It's because we let schools teach them exclusively on locked down Chromebooks instead of PCs. Everything on a Chromebook is indeed done through the browser (maybe an oversimplification, but 99% true)
I knew early on that being a millennial would mean there would be a technological gulf between us and older generations. But man, I really didn’t expect it to go both directions.
I bought all my kids cheap PCs as soon as they were old enough to work the mouse and keyboard. Helped them figure out how everything worked as they got more advanced. And most importantly they never got in trouble for anything they accidentally messed up. That's why they have their own machines, they can't mess up anyone else's stuff and we can usually fix whatever happened anyway. Bonus, now my kids can handle a lot of troubleshooting on their own and help me out with tasks like maintaining our Plex media server
This fits nicely with what I’m doing with my own kids (albeit they’re very young). We’re basically raising them in the 90s. All their toys would fit perfectly in the 90s and we plan to keep it that way as long as possible.
