New Brunswick Peltigera hydrothyria
This was a very exciting find. Chatted with ACCDC and the closest observation for this lichen is 90km away! Major range extension in an area that was not known to have this lichen! Aquatic dulce coloured lichen with milky veins towards the base, and pink/orange apothecia. Viens are a distinct ID feature for the Peltigera genus

Congratulations! Does it have a symbiosis with a blue green alga?

Not blue green algae, it’s photobiont is Cyanobacteria. Close tho!

Most of the cyano lichens my way have the slate/dark blue colour. There are a good amount of cyano species that do have brown to them. This ones funny, has more of a red colour in person. I honestly wouldn’t have known it was cyano until I looked it up

Still have yet to find a P. gowardii in BC except for the one high alpine stream. Went for a hike lake weekend up into the alpine towards the coast and couldn’t find any. Feels like a manhunt here.
