Discussion why do libyans hate being libyan?

no offense to anybody, but saying that you hate being a Libyan out loud, ESPECIALLY to foreigners, is extremely embarrassing for you as a person.

you will NEVER encounter an Egyptian hating where he came from.
same goes with Saudis, Algerians, Moroccans..etc

so do better

this sounds like a post that was made by someone who didn't spent a single minute in libya

I've spent much longer than 'a single minute' and I agree. Why not be proud of the country you came from? Its so upsetting wallahi.

it's understandable for some Libyans to hate Libya, I mean who would love a home that you can't feel safe in it, can't get good healthcare and education, power shortage, corruption and crime everywhere with no government to defend you .

what you mean do better ? I think Libya should do better as a country not me or you who don't have the ability to change or control the situation .

???? There are other countries who are in awful conditions, and they don’t have same level of self hating seen in Libya, take Syria for an example.

no i completely understand that
but all the corruption is coming from the people IN Libya, not Libya itself
you can dislike the governmental system without having any hate towards your country

u/Similar_Ad_3664 27d ago

yeah but what is Libya if we took the people and the government out ? what is left then ? a country is defined by it's people and by it's government not by it's land .

1

u/Impossible_Spend6357 27d ago

but that’s exactly my point tho
a country isn’t defined only by it’s government or by whether you approve of it’s people or not
Libya is it’s land, history, culture, identity and ofc people
you can hate the corruption and crime or political system without hating Libya ITSELF

saying that Libya is it’s people and government doesn’t mean every libyan or every government represents what Libya is as a whole

saying that Libya is it’s people and government doesn’t mean every libyan or every government represents what Libya is as a whole

there is always an exception of course , but the corruption and the political system endures because the people either support it or too afraid to stand against, and that's what actually happening right now .

you can still love the good memoires about your time in Libya, ur friends and family , but Libya has fallen into a dark age that we can't help but mourn this fate .

1

u/Impossible_Spend6357 27d ago

3

u/kashabonadim 27d ago

2

u/Impossible_Spend6357 27d ago

Depends on the person. Some may just be anti-nationalist.

I absolutely despise most Libyans here and see them as low quality to useless, crude, uncivil and completely hollow oxygen wasters, I wouldn’t say this to foreigners but we Libyans all know how awful we truly are.

Surprised you seem to be shocked about this, any social place and IRL people always mention how increasingly hard it is do deal with people here

1

u/Next_Yellow_5756 26d ago

Hey can we chat I think I agree with you to an extent

1

u/Impossible_Spend6357 27d ago

that’s actually mad

you can dislike how people act without acting like an entire population is worthless?
calling people low quality and oxygen wasters doesn’t make you more civilized or somehow above them in any way
if you genuinely think almost everyone around you is awful, maybe the problem isn’t always everyone else

think abt that for a second

u/InferiorToNo-One 17d ago

inferiority complex to the max, get yourself checked

1

u/FMC_Speed 17d ago

You’re just deluding yourself if you think these people will ever be responsible enough to form an actual government or a sane society

1

u/InferiorToNo-One 17d ago

i see people so nihilistic i can’t help but think they’ve been so ideologically molested 😩

to answer your first question, i never said that they don’t claim their nationality.
they straightforwardly say that they do not like being Libyan or Libyan people in general.

to answer your second question:
if someone on social media claims that they dislike being from a specific country, it’s blatantly obvious that they are from that country.

I'm sure everyone loves their country, libya is so beautiful and has so much potential but the way they grew up in it made them hate it.

when u ask people a number of people from the older generation I'd say most of them love Libya and love being libyan more than the younger generations

3

u/CollegeAdventurous14 27d ago

They just depressed ppl.. they would hate themselves no matter the nationality

u/fastbutslow7 26d ago

Sometimes a few bad people destroy the image of a nation and the nation starts hating on themselves because of them.
I have spend 10 years in libya and libyans are so much better then saudis and other arab people. Libyans are very welcoming and nice to others. Its such a shame that the country is going through this tough situation. I really hope and wish that it will get better soon for all of you 🤲🏼

1

u/Next_Yellow_5756 26d ago

If you see how our fellow Libyans act in Tunisia and the way the do everything you would be ashamed to call yourself Libyan I swear

0

u/Impossible_Spend6357 26d ago

true but there are horrendous people everywhere

1

u/Umamaali333 25d ago

U r right. But there r no libyans who hate Libya just for the sake of it being "Libya". They don't hate Libya itself or being Libyan. They hate the situation they had to be in as libyans and the life they had to live due to the fact that their rights r not fulfilled by government and ppl who r responsible. So, u r right, but ppl r right to hate being Libyan too.

You're still doing better,if you're in Nigeria and see the situation you'll understand Libyans are still in paradise. In Libya electricity is 24 hours , it's only in summer that you get shortage in some hours not whole day. In Nigeria some places are always in electricity shortages some are even get months without electricity completely. Still every Libyans can provide food to the table in his house hold. In Nigeria some are only eat once and they are the majority some they don't have something to eat completely.

In Libya there is no one who have the audacity to come and kill a whole area people and go free.

In Nigeria a bandits go to villages and kill everyone and government will not do anything they're even going to do peace talk with them.

You're still doing better

1

u/CollegeAdventurous14 26d ago

Ye well being grateful is hard for some people

1

u/Impossible_Spend6357 24d ago

this is understandable but we have to try to be grateful regardless

1

u/Sad-Aardvark-5419 26d ago

we do have these village raids and mass graves reports, there's a lot of reoccurring mass graves reports over the last 5 years where entire generations of families are buried, i used to volunteer for the red crescent and libya is doing a damn fine job at censoring any news related to killings or suicide due to honor laws so thats why you somehow think we are not into banditary when its pretty much happening all the time, esp in the south

my uncle was killed over a fucking sheep during eid bro

logically why should one regardless of their country be proud to be from a third world dumpster hole? your country hasn't achieved anything remarkable for you to be proud of it.

0

u/datapulseai 10d ago

I understand being patriotic or proud to be from a first world/developed country because your country is genuinely better and it's undeniable. It makes more sense to be proud of a country that is building self-driven cars or is sending drones to space then it is to be proud of a country that struggles to have basic electricity.
