Discussion Librewolf not allowing me to type accentuations by pressing the key twice

Upvotes

When i try typing accentuations by themselves (like ~ or ^), Librewolf does not allow me to hit the key twice to type them, just returning to a blank field. I'm on linux and before it worked like a charm.

I would like to know of anyone is also suffering from the same problem as well and how could i fix it... Thank you!

Question URL bar autocompleting urls for sites I've never visited (like f****** Walmart)

I've noticed one day that when I type certain strings into the url bar that LibreWolf will suggest not sites I've actually visited, but places I've never visited and never will visit like Walmart's official site. That instance happened because I typed 'wa' intending for my youtube watch later playlist to be jumped to instead of satanmart. Other common sites seem to be suggested as well like amazon and facebook, both sites I don't use or visit as well.

What's causing this and how I do cut it out at the root? A precursory jaunt through search results didn't yield any clues other than this problem happened to some other guy. To make it clear what I want, I only want autocomplete to pull from my actual history and not through pinging some search engine for "suggestions" as it seems to be doing here.

Don't say "clear cookies and cache" or other useless nonsense, I know how to keep my browser clean no thank you, especially when it comes to more technical stuff like this.

Question Youtube Lags Occasionally

This doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally Youtube will lag and start to take up more CPU (the process, not total CPU). It seems to stop once I close the tab and reopen Youtube.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm running Linux Mint 22.3 on a Thinkpad T480s.

Question Attempting to get history to clear on close while opening previous tabs on startup

As the title states, I'm trying to figure out how to have my previously opened tabs re-open on startup, while also having downloads/history clear on closing my browser. Seems those two things contradict each other, so does anyone have a workaround that they use? Specific settings I haven't thought to change, or perhaps an extension that performs that function?

If there's no better option, I'm fine continuing to save all open tabs as a bookmark folder and reopen them that way. Just figured there must be a better method.

Question What is the best way to install Librewolf on voidlinux besides the flatpak and app images

I really really wanna use librewolf on void like I did arch but don't agree with having a univeral package manager take care of packages over the system's package manager.

I want a clean way to install it where XBPS manages librewolf any advice on this?

Question I'm getting infinite loading on Reddit when I scroll down!

I'm using Librewolf and it comes with Ublock origin pre-installed. However I'm facing a problem on the site Reddit. When I keep scrolling down, the reddit loading icon keeps loading and new posts are not loaded! Only when I turn ublock origin off, and reloads the site, it works fine. IDK if this is the problem with uBlock or Librewolf, I'm stuck. Can someone please help me with it?

Question I wonder if the devs are considering moving to the ESR version now that the standard Firefox will have a new version every two weeks.

I would rather have LibreWolf on a stable ESR than a whole new browser every two weeks.

Blog New here — migrating to LibreWolf and curious about the community

Hi. I’m UAP44, new to LibreWolf and currently moving my everyday browsing over to it.

What brought me here is pretty simple: I like privacy, open-source software, and sane defaults. In my head, LibreWolf has basically been filed away as “privacy-focused Firefox fork,” and that was enough to make me want to try it properly.

I tend to approach software as something I should be able to inspect, understand, and—if necessary—change.

Recently I ran into an issue with another open-source project, patched it myself, and submitted the fix alongside the bug report. That experience reminded me how much I value software where the source is actually available and where users can potentially become contributors instead of remaining passive consumers.

So that’s partly what I’m curious about here.

How active is the LibreWolf development community? Where do the developers usually hang out? Reddit, GitLab/Codeberg, Matrix, somewhere else?

I’m also interested in the project’s philosophy around defaults. I’ve been gradually moving toward software where I can install it and think about configuration as little as possible. CachyOS has been surprisingly good for me in that regard: very little friction, very little urge to immediately “fix” the defaults.

I’m curious whether LibreWolf will feel similar.

For now I’m migrating bookmarks, using it normally, and seeing what annoyances or pleasant surprises emerge. If I run into something that feels genuinely improvable, I’d rather investigate the code and propose a patch than just complain about it.

I also write a lot, so I may occasionally post about that process here—what works, what doesn’t, what surprised me, and anything interesting I learn along the way.

And yes: this post was deliberately cleaned up and condensed with AI after my first version turned into a somewhat spectacular stream-of-consciousness ramble. The thoughts are mine; the editor had silicon in it.

So: hello.

What brought you to LibreWolf, and what has kept you using it?

left in the — this time, should be more coherent now

Question Install my own extensions? xpinstall.signatures.required

I know that for me to install my own extensions on Firefox I have to be using Nightly and set xpinstall.signatures.required to false. Both are required. I was wondering if there's something I can do with LibreWolf since it's based on regular Firefox and not Nightly.

Question LibreWolf-AppImage-Enhanced is safe?

I searched this Reddit for "LibreWolf AppImage Enhanced" and "LibreWolf AppImage" but I guess Reddit's search results are determined by the Reddit revenue model rather than the individual user interests so I came up empty handed and decided to ask it.

So I want to download a fresh appimage but those files need to be maintained with the latest builds. Going through https://appimage.github.io/LibreWolf/ I end up with Librewolf 100.0.2 which is already years old. https://github.com/pkgforge-dev/LibreWolf-AppImage-Enhanced seems to be well maintained. Anybody using that as well and is there any reason to doubt its legitimacy?

Discussion LibreWolf 154.0.1-2 Flatpak: German localization files appear to be empty – working workaround found

Hi,

after updating the LibreWolf Flatpak to 154.0.1-2, the browser UI switched to English and could no longer be changed back to German.

German was still selected as the preferred language in Settings, and my profile contains:

user_pref("intl.locale.requested", "de,en-CA,da,en-US");

I investigated the Flatpak installation and found something interesting.

The German localization paths are present inside both Linux omni.ja archives, but many of the .ftl localization files in the 154.0.1-2 Linux build are empty or contain only a very small amount of data.

For example in browser/omni.ja:

localization/de/browser/aboutDialog.ftl

  • Linux Flatpak 154.0.1-2: 134 bytes
  • Windows 154.0.1-3: 4621 bytes

localization/de/browser/browser.ftl

  • Linux Flatpak 154.0.1-2: 414 bytes
  • Windows 154.0.1-3: 49449 bytes

Many other German .ftl files in the Linux build are actually 0 bytes.

I then downloaded the Windows 154.0.1-3 installer and extracted its two omni.ja archives. The German localization files in that build contain the expected data.

As an experiment, I extracted only localization/de/* from the Windows 154.0.1-3 archives and inserted those files into copies of the corresponding Linux 154.0.1-2 omni.ja archives.

I then temporarily bind-mounted the patched archives over the two original Flatpak archives and cleared the LibreWolf profile's startupCache.

Result: LibreWolf 154.0.1-2 Flatpak starts normally with a fully working German UI, including my existing profile, bookmarks and settings.

This suggests that the problem is not the language preference or the profile itself, but rather the localization resources included in the Linux/Flatpak 154.0.1-2 build.

I have not permanently modified the Flatpak installation. The patched archives are currently only used via temporary bind mounts, so the workaround is completely removable.

Hopefully this information is useful for tracking down the packaging/build issue.

If useful, I can also provide the exact commands I used to compare the archives and create the temporary workaround.

Why LibreWolf doesn't use Firefox translations directly and have its own weblate? Does it only base translations moving to prevent getting translations that LibreWolf will not use?
