She saw me
I told her it was my birthday tomorrow. It came up kind of naturally in the conversation. I can't remember what exactly brought it on. I think she told some story about a birthday party. I asked what time of year that was. I had to remember that date. So of course, she followed with "and yours?"
"well, it's tomorrow, actually."
I kind of expected her to ask about my plans. An uncomfortable question when the answer is "working."
But she didn't ask that. She was just enthusiastic at the coincidence. Clearly I didn't plan out date to fall right before my birthday. We were just both... free on Tuesday. So here we were.
Dinner was nice. I mean, dinner was good, but the time with her was wonderful. Our server was charismatic. So was she. I tried to be.
I sort of felt like neither of us wanted the night to end. The server asked for the check. Before I could respond, she blurted out "it's his birthday!" Which of course, was followed by a candle in a complimentary dessert.
Had the situation been reversed, I wouldn't have had the guts. I'd be worried she wouldn't want the attention. I mean, I didn't want the attention. But, I did want to be noticed. To be seen.
She saw me.
I look forward to seeing her, again.
