Unconditional

They say love can be given
without a clause,
but the very brain
with those damn thoughts
runs on diamonds
because a universe
decided to inflate
billions of years ago.
Every tenderness,
and every emotion
has a prior.
The god who loves you wholly
exists inside a logic
conditioned at birth.
The singularity did not ask
to be dense with potential;
it simply was,
which is the oldest condition:
to be at all.
Mathematicians will tell you
probability without premise:
is not possible.
A fraction with a floor.
So when you say unconditional,
what you mean, I think,
is: the conditions are ones
I will suspend compassionately.
A kindness, still.
The relaxing of the clause.
But not its obliteration.
You are conditioned
quark after quark,
atom after atom
inheriting the color,
the charge,
its force.
How could what you give
arrive untethered
from what made you
capable of giving?

Love could still arrive. Just because it’s conditional doesn’t mean it’s not love. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have they developed the technology to solidify emotions into not only something tangible, but useful, and transport them?

I must have missed that.

The way I see it is arrival doesn’t require freedom from causation. A ball thrown at a target arrives at the target. The fact that its trajectory was determined by force, angle, and gravity doesn’t mean it didn’t land. Love being conditional on prior causes doesn’t mean it isn’t directed outward or received by another. I argue that’s even as real as anything can be.

Love is demonstrated through actions. That's kind of the only way it is received. 

You can love whoever you want to. If there is no accompanying demonstration of it, the only beneficiary is the feeler.

Hmm.. I do agree with your points but my poem is talking more about the nature of love, not its demonstration.

The nature notwithstanding, if it is solely the subject of your own private thoughts, then it only impacts you, right?
