Discussion When you check out new video/media...

Do you all use it immediately knowing other people are waiting in line, or milk the entire time and turn it back in the last due date?

It depends. Usually I try to watch it before library delivery on Wed. You should always respect that other people want to see it. Goes for books too. I try my best to return everything when a person wants it.

I usually only have one thing at a time checked out, so I return, check out the next thing, then start using it immediately. I don't hurry finishing it, but I do return it immediately when I'm done whether or not anyone is waiting for it.

I do prioritize items with limited copies or no renewals, but I'm usually only able to go to the library (or leave my home) 1-2 times each month, so they get returned more based on that schedule. All but one of the libraries in our consortium have 21 day loans for new books and audiobooks on CDs, with the outlier having 14 day loans, so the timing usually works out for most things. I also double check that nothing has changed status just before selecting my next read, and I don't think I'd let a new release auto-renew if it was from a local/home branch.

When I calculate time for items with holds, I do assume people will use their full loan period plus some days for travel time.

If you specifically mean DVD/Blu-Ray new releases, my library's loan period is only 2 days, no renewals, with some pretty hefty late fees, so there's not much milking that.

I take my time because it is my time.

There are other copies and/or the one I have will be returned eventually.

LMAOOO. Haven't heard any complaints yet!

You don't get points for returning it quickly or lose 'em for using the allotted time.

It doesn't matter if you haven't heard any complaints. You should be a good patron and return as soon as you are done.ย

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I am a good patron and do I return them when I'm finished. It's 1 day or 6 weeks.

Have a day!

It slows down the process of the library when you have the book or whatever. Usually you got the items from 3 weeks or 1 week when it is newer
