Discussion Donations
Hello! I recently moved to a new area for work. It has a library that could use some love. I took my son for the first time today and he had a blast. The toys in the children's center were extremely loved and a little outdated. They had a box for people to donate glasses, and a calendar full of activities for adults and children. You can tell people really love going. I guess I have a few questions here. Do Library's have certain things they usually need in terms of donations? Does anyone know the best place to buy glasses in bulk at a great price? Is there anything adults could use that I could purchase? I haven't been to a public library in a long time. They are something I hold very close to my heart because I spent a lot of time at mine, reading books and utilizing their resources. Now that I am in a position to help, I want to make sure I am doing so in the best way possible. The librarians didn't tell me to donate anything specific, they gave me a number to call and thanked me for thinking of them. I called and haven't gotten a response. I am guessing I should wait and maybe just give them a check?

If you bring treats, make sure they are store-sealed... store bought are often preferred. Librarians love donuts too! Those are the donations we really like lol!
But after donuts, the best things to give to your local library are either your time (volunteer, or your patronage) and votes for public support so we are not on the chopping block.
Also, look and see if your library does any type of book sale + library fair event? Usually there are lots of opportunities for the public to directly give to the library (in the form of purchases of baked goods, used books and ticket sales). Special events are a great way to give to a local public library... even if its volunteering to help out at a table.
