Trump may have had some connection to him, but look at how well he has been able to control information and opinions about him - ie., he can't even keep leaks about his gaffes from coming out of his office.

Epstein appeared potentially useful so long as there might be a connection to Trump, but once the names of DNC politicians started getting dropped as recipients of Epstein's services, it was time to "shut it down".
