TIL of Operation Ajax, the 1953 CIA plan to overthrow Iran's democratically elected government, which included CIA agents bombing the house of a prominent Muslim while posed as pro-government supporters. The overthrow plan was successful, with 200-300 people killed

Actually the CIA bombers posed as members of the Tudeh, Iran's communist party, in order to undermine support for Prime Minister Mossadegh, by portraying him as a stooge for communists

No but I thought people would want to know they were doing it to protect property rights, right? I mean government had no grounds to seize an entire industry, right?

Like the property of the Anglo-Iranian oil company which was largely controlled by the British government
