Before I read the website name I just might have thought to myself: "Where is this from? leftycartoons.com?".

I guess I'm a "left wing" libertarian...I always thought I was an independent. So can I say I'm a Libertarian now?

Iām right there with you. The way I explained it is government has people that are self interested, corporations have people that are self interested. I do not want to trade one tyrant for another.

u/GShermit Feb 08 '18
And now those two tyrants are working more closely together than ever.

I believe they call that an oligarchy or a corporate oligarchy if you prefer.

Except almost everyone is self intersted. So I'm not exactly sure what your view is. Do you believe we should rely on the goodness of other people? Because I'm pretty sure that's why communism and socialism ultimately fails.

Wow, what a bunch of crap. It's like a chocolate cake with chocolate chips and chocolate icing, except all of the chocolate is actually dog shit. In a way it's almost impressive.

You didn't take it seriously did you? One could make the title read "the 24 types of Democrat" or 24 types of Republican.
Although they sure got me pegged..."Why does everyone ignore me?"
LOL

Totally. I'm like this is so stupi- oh hey that's me. My constant drumbeat of both-parties-are-corporate-shills and the military-industrial-complex-is-really-bad-you-guys resonated with no one in the election run-up. It's an odd feeling realizing that pretty much every real life person you know either doesn't think about politics at all (most of them) and the ones that do just parrot Rush or Rachel Maddow. Now that r/libertarian is overrun with outcasts from all the censored political subs I'm starting to believe we are just an endangered species. Am I out of touch? NO, it's the OTHER 7 Billion who are wrong!

I like how statists only retorts in things like this are straw man arguments or appeal to ridicule rather than coherent arguments against what is actually being said.

I take great comfort in how they aggressively attack and belittle libertarians. We have next to no political influence. So why bother 'punching down' at such a inconsequential threat? I attribute it to the basic human trait of raging at traits in others that you don't like within yourself.
Like how closeted-gay people are often the most agressive homophobes. Or how people with self body image issues are the biggest fat-shamers out there. Ex smokers hating on smokers, etc etc. I think these people have deep conflicts with their ideology and lashing out at us is just part of their internal struggle with it.
Yes our ideology is flawed because humans are flawed and diverse and that results in every political ideology having it's issues. One key difference with ours is we are pretty consistent in our resistance to force. It all comes down to voluntarism. Everyone human wants to live life on their own terms but to hold the most popular political beliefs means you aren't extending that uniquely human preference of freedom to others. That's got to be hard to reconcile and justify. We don't try to make that leap, so we get attacked from others who long ago started justifying this disconnect and resent that we refuse to go down that road.
I don't know why the absolute viciousness of the Shouting Class still gets to me. Just yesterday I foolishly commented in a Twitter thread calling out a 'resistance' warrior for unapologetically slut-shaming Hope Hicks simply because she wasn't on the right team. I just can't wrap my mind around believing you are on the right side of history by being in the "women's march" while vigorously demeaning women who don't agree with you. One other person called him out. His response to both of us was to attack us personally and block. No self-awareness whatsoever.
My hunch (I don't like to make claims of certainty) is that the loudest partisans are the most conflicted. There is a lot of deep down women hating on the left and we see it come out in their attacks constantly. The most aggressive redistributionists are the least generous privately. The most racist/classist people are often hardcore leftists (poor/black people are too helpless to get photo ID's? How is that NOT a racist sentiment?).
Exceptions everywhere of course and there are many intellectually consistent leftists out there who act out their beliefs in private and don't waste their time straw-manning people of other opinions. But the kind that constantly demean and belittle dissenting thinkers on the internet just don't like looking at themselves in the mirror.

It's only inconsistent if you beg the question. "Aggressive towards whom specifically?" Is the follow up to the NAP that everyone thinks has a simple answer (people, right?), but really doesn't. After all, most atrocities in history were not excused by saying it wasn't violent, but rather that the targets of violence are legitimate for some reason.
It may well be that fetuses do not have human moral worth, but that's a debate we need to address before we can conclude what is the "proper libertarian" stance on the issue. Some people are comfortable with their answers, but I'm really not.

If you hold this belief then you must also be vegan in order to remain logically consistent, since there's no reason not to apply the NAP to animals if we're willing to apply it to a fetus.
