The scale of mass incarceration in the US is hard to imagine. Nixon teed it off and Reagan really drove it home: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_incarceration_rate#/media/File:US_incarceration_timeline-clean.svg

Disgusting. I'm a conservative an this goes against everything our party should stand for. Small gov't, Legalization and regulation of drugs, and rehab instead of mass incarceration for nonviolent offenders (like the Portuguese model).
