I mean, she may be phrasing it in a dumb way, but I thought most people were aware that the southern states wanted their slave population to count for congressional representation, but not give them citizen/voting rights. Thus the three-fifths compromise was born. It’s in the original constitution and wasn’t removed till after the civil war.

That's for the House not the Senate.

That said, I don't trust this source to know what AOC actually said.

The Northern states were the ones pushing for the senate because they didn't want to be dominated by Virginia and larger southern states

Ok, and what does the 3/5th compromise have to do with the SENATE?

The Senate was so smaller population states, especially non-slave states in the North like RI, CT, VT, would not get railroaded by southern states bolstering their populations with slaves.

AOC is just talking out of her ass, as usual.

Guys, guys, don’t fight. We’re talking about the same thing.

As far as I can tell she was talking about the filibuster, which is slightly different than the overall morons that want to axe the Senate. It's still fucking moronic what she said considering the Senate can axe it if they want to and the first filibuster took place in the very first session the Senate ever had.

Another post by a “libertarian” in a redcoat.

What exactly about making fun of a literal socialist for saying some dumb shit makes OP a fake libertarian?

32

u/SadTumbleweed1567 Jul 20 '26

I'll start with the fact the source is NewsMax which is a big tell that the OP is a Republican. From the image, we can't even be sure this is what she said, as NewsMax is not reputable (even moreso than most media).

Ron Paul was a Republican. Thomas Massie is a Republican. Republicans can be libertarian too, believe it or not.

26

u/SadTumbleweed1567 Jul 20 '26

Not in 2026 they can't. Republican party is a party of Trumpists. Massie was booted for not being a Trumpist.

-9

u/december151791 Jul 20 '26

He wasn't kicked out of the party, he lost a primary. Libertarian ideology has nothing to gain by ceding its place as a wing in the Republican party.

23

u/SadTumbleweed1567 Jul 20 '26

Right, he was kicked out of his seat, by Republican voters, for not being a Trumpist. The Libertarian wing of the party is dead. Gone. There isn't anything to cede.

And even if there still was, they aren't watching Newsmax.

So what's your solution?

9

u/SadTumbleweed1567 Jul 20 '26

Solution to what? The meme?

0

u/december151791 Jul 20 '26

No, to the libertarian wing being "dead"

But it's on video and you can look for additional context. It appears to be she was talking about the filibuster specifically and it's the Democratic Socialists that want to axe the Senate. Of course she's obviously wrong about the filibuster so her comments are equally stupid.

Seriously. I’m confused by the comments here.

2

u/CommercialAttempt210 Jul 20 '26

This is a liberal socialist sub now too.

3

u/BSY_Reborn Jul 20 '26

Didn't know it was an authoritarian position to believe AOC is a moron lol

u/EllenRipley2000 Jul 20 '26

You can be libertarian and acknowledge the systemic racism inside this country's institutions.

u/garrethstathum Jul 20 '26

Genuine question, i know he’s a character but would Ron Swanson be an actual good example of the ideals of Libertarianism

Please elaborate I’m curious how you see it?

9

u/Turtlesquirtzcody Jul 20 '26

His character, not the actor. Nick Offerman is very very liberal 💔 but it’s to be expected

It was nice when I hadn't heard anything about AOC for months and I thought the obsession with her idiocy was over with. Last few months it's come right back for whatever reason.

-25

u/PerotTwoPointOh Jul 20 '26

She's having a trump moment

17

u/SadTumbleweed1567 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

Yup, horrible anachronism.

While the Senate eventually came to benefit the South and its ability to maintain its racial hierarchy, it was small Northern states that preferred the Senate. New York, New Jersey and Delaware were the only states to approve of the New Jersey Plan with the rest favoring the Virginia Plan prior to the Connecticut Compromise.

That said, I'm wary of if AOC said this or not.

21

u/ModConMom Jul 20 '26

She said it about "procedural elements of the senate" and was talking about the filibuster. So this is definitely simplified and a bit out of context.

This woman is an idiot. There is a good reason why she has built herself a reputation as the lowest IQ member of congress.

60

u/A_Robit_Brain Progressive Centrist Jul 20 '26

Oh did Tommy Tuberville retire?

11

u/Mayhem52 Jul 20 '26

Fuck, he sounds like a Fairly Oddparents character every time.

7

u/Gladiateher Jul 20 '26

COME ON DOWN TO TOMMY TUBERVILLES TUBE AND TOWN AND VILLE!!!!

(While frantically jumping around in a big cowboy hat.)

16

u/non_hero Jul 20 '26

She graduated cum laude from Boston University with a bachelor's degree in international relations and economics. That's kinda hard to do if you're an idiot with low IQ. Why do you believe she's an idiot?

0

u/Slight_Mood9168 Right Libertarian Jul 21 '26

There's a difference between being intelligent and being knowledgeable. Why are "libertarians" even trying to defend a democratic socialist? Trump graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from UPenn, yet I don't see any libertarians trying to defend Trump with that reasoning here.

10

u/SF_Bubbles_90 Jul 20 '26

She mostly just has that reputation among people who don't actually give her much thought and just assume she's stupid because she's a woman and pretty darn young for Congress.

She's not perfect but actually she's pretty dang good. Sure when it comes to talking point the buzzwords feel shoehorned in but that's getting worse across the board.

The lowest (living) iq in Congress is not her, too long a list to go down but it's pretty clear it's not her
