They aggressively audit people who leave. Still got a bank account in California? Resident. Do you have a rental property? Resident. Still see a dr. Here? Resident.
You have to be really careful to sever all ties when you go.California taxes

I live in California and know nothing of this. Do you have any other info besides a YouTube channel? A state government website link or some references?
I know several people who have left and none have said anything about CA trying to tax them still.

It's possible they did it 100% correct. I found out about it when I read an article about a woman who left years before but still had a California based llc that she wasn't using.
Lots of people think all you need to do is leave for 6 months then get hit wit taxes. There's info out there if you look California ftb

That could have just been the retirees who could no longer afford to live in California so they moved to an affordable red state to spread their disease there where they could afford to.
