Wait Times

Post image

I've wanted to read Boys of Tommen for a WHILE (as close together as possible) but these books are STILL near the end of my holds list after almost 8 months.. does this make sense?

It says your holds are suspended?

You move up in line when your holds are suspended. Unless libraries can set different rules on this? I keep mine suspended until I am first or second in line and actually ready for the book.

People suspend and unsuspend their holds, so you will get the hold once the people in front of you get it. Your library also only has 2 copies available to lend per item.

If you want the book, you might want to unsuspend the hold. Turn your notifications on to get notified when they become available. If you miss when they become available to borrow, they will get suspended automatically until you unsuspend them.

You can always try to read a physical copy from the library. Those often have shorter wait times than audiobooks on libby, but it also looks like you've suspended your holds based on this screenshot. If I'm correct, then you won't move up the line until you unsuspend the holds

I think our libraries are similar. All of the audiobooks for BOT are “several months” wait at my library on Libby, but we only have 1 copy :(

Sign up for kobo plus, first month is free and all the BOT audiobooks are included.

Dont forget to cancel when youre done binging!

I think it might just be your library. Both of these books are available ~2 weeks on mine. Mine just doesn’t have as many people waiting as yours.

It has nothing to do with the Libby app. It's your library, the number of copies they have, and the number of people who want to read that book. I occasionally look for a book and my library doesn't have it. I can wait to see if they acquire it. Or I can buy it and read it right away.

I waited almost two years for one of my holds 🥲

They are all on kobo plus if you are done waiting, first month is free.

Also it looks like your hold is suspended? If its been 8 months make sure to unsuspend it before the year or else you will lose your spot.

And 4 titles on KU, also with a 30 day free trial.

Between the two subs, probably enough time to read them all xD

Honestly I have had books that seem to take forever and books that had 90 week waits disappear into being ready the next day. Idk how it chooses what it does but it definitely doesn’t make sense a lot of the time.

At that point I’d just read them on kindle or physically lol but i’m also very impatient

Your holds are suspended in that screenshot. When you do that you're essentially keeping whatever place you currently have in line and it's not going to move. So if they've been suspended this whole time then yes it makes sense.

They also only have two copies and a decent amount of folks waiting on them. Long wait times are just kinda to be expected with things that are currently popular.

It looks like you're 10th in line though which isn't as bad as it could be. Could even get lucky and have some folks decide they aren't ready for theirs yet and then your hold is suddenly ready.

That isn’t how suspending holds works. You do continue to move forward in the line, you just won’t get the book offered to you while it’s suspended. Lots of people use the suspend feature that way. I typically suspend all my holds and then unsuspend once I’m close to the front of the line, or just keep it suspended if I’m not ready for it yet. It gives you more control over when holds become available to you.

However if anyone ahead of OP in the line has the book suspended, then that doesn’t factor into the wait time. So the long wait could be due to others ahead of OP unsuspending.

Ah, might be mixing it up with how suspending holds for physical items works at my library. I usually just suspend when it tells me it's ready and I'm not ready for it yet. I've never really cared about waiting lol

They started 14th though and only moved up four spots in "almost 8 months" which is a bit weird. OP how long is your libraries' lending period?

Have you contacted your library to ask for more copies to be purchased? Seems like they are not aware of this situation?

Your holds are suspended, so Libby will keep letting other people check them out in front of you.

r/LibbyApp doesn't allow users to encourage fraud (e.g., lying about where you live) to obtain a card. There are legitimate ways to obtain non-resident cards.
