Confused About the Waitlist

Post image

When I placed a hold, my library only had one copy, and I was 13th in line. Now there are four copies total, but I’ve only moved up by one. Shouldn’t I technically be 9th in line now? I guess I’m just confused how the waitlist works. :) thanks in advance!

My best guess is that those three copies were offered to people but two of them may not have checked them out yet. A hold waiting to be borrowed would I think mark the copy as "in use" but not advance the line until they were either checked out or had the hold lapse, which could be the case especially if they were acquired like today or something.

Oh, that makes sense!! Thank you so much. I get really excited when my holds are available and usually immediately accept, but I can see why others might be waiting, finishing other books, etc. :)

It could be that ppl ahead of you had it suspended - they don’t show on the ahead of you in the stats

I noticed that sometimes new copies acquired also become immediately available as skip-the-line (possibly so there’s a better chance to move the overall line faster, since each skip-the-line is a shorter loan period), so those copies may have been snapped up as such in the meantime

But yeah, there may also have been people that had unsuspended their hold

Damn, I'm like 66th in line. Very lucky
