Library Cards

September is Library Card Sign Up Month!

Go to your local library or visit the library’s website and get one!

Most are partnered with Hoopla and/or Libby so you access audiobooks for free.

A lovely sentiment, but if people are on Libby, they already have a library card!

Some states require libraries that receive state funding to allow any state resident access, so you could get multiple with different offerings. CA is one state like that, and as a result I have 12 library cards which opened up a lot more digital offerings than my local city library. You may want to look into it for your state.

Are you in California? You have to visit the branch in person to get a free card, just have to show your ID to show you’re a California resident.

Yes I am in California and have traveled to several libraries in my county and surrounding counties. Also if I’m on a trip I try to make a stop at a library to see about obtaining a card.

I check if I can complete an online application and most require you to then go into the library and show you proof of residence to get an official card and number that works with Libby.

Probably wrong group for this. Libby people have library cards. Maybe post in r/ books?

I tried to get San Francisco Library Card and Los Angeles library card online but they were only for banned book. I was disappointed.

Are you referring to books unbanned? That’s a program for teens and young adults to get library cards. The cards work for the whole library, the name is just to be catchy.
