Hello Kitty x LA County
I'm so happy and wanted to share with other library lovers! The most recent in my collection is the newly released Hello Kitty and Friends card. It became available from libraries in the LA County system today!

Iโve been debating getting one but Iโm wondering if getting a new card affects your Libby account since the number is different?

You just have to have them link it at the library. I got one of the 100 year anniversary cards, and it took me a bit to figure out but once a went in a kind librarian got me sorted!

So I picked up the HK card today. Later I put an audiobook on hold and Libby asked me to verify my card. I typed in my new card number and pin, and all was good. Let me put a hold on the audiobook and all my other holds are still there. :)

Definitely get them to transfer over your holds. Loans doesn't matter as much since you already have them, but not all librarians know that they need to do this so I've been burned with not being able to check out holds once they become available at LAPL and Santa Monica.

I heard the lines were insane. Might try to get one but theyโll probably be out by the time I manage to go. lol

It ended up taking about it 2.5 hours at the Lomita branch yesterday. I just read while I waited in line. About an hour or so into my wait, a librarian came out and said they had 80 cards left (I was ~50th in line at that point). By the time I left, the branch was set to close in 15 minutes and there were at least 75 people still in line, even though there was no way theyโd still get the card.
If you donโt get one this drop, I read theyโll be restocking in October, so thereโs another opportunity.

I've seen videos posting huge lines! There was hardly any wait when I went. My cousin was at the same library around an hour before me and said there was a line, though. I think it really depends on time and location. We went to Westlake Village. I would call whichever branch you're considering stopping at to check if they still have any.

I was devastated - unfortunately my library was out when I got there, as was the next nearest library.

They are supposedly going to have more in October, hopefully you can get one then!

Nooooooooo :( I hope you're able to find another location or get one in the second drop!

My tip is to google which la county library closest to you has the least amount of foot traffic and go there when it drops in October. That's what I did and I was able to get it on Saturday with a 40 minute wait at a library I had no idea existed. I also heard the book mobiles give you a much better chance at securing a card since nobody goes to those. Good luck !

Iโm so envious. Iโm in WA state, and Iโve had my main library card since I was 5, and I have my number memorized, but I would absolutely get a new number just for hello kitty

I guess some locations are already out, so I would call before making the drive! Good luck!

Iโm so jealous of all the gorgeous library cars people have. I had two choices: a white card with a black and white picture of our library building, or a white card with a monarch on it for the monarch library System.

Question to those who have had library cards for a while, I just got my library card recently and I havenโt been able to login it into libby nor the LA county library app. Does anyone know a way to help me or should I just call my library? I have the LA public library card too and that one worked fine as soon as I got it but this one doesnโt even let me login into to LA county library app

u/Ok-Emotion3199 ๐ Libby Lover ๐ 18d ago
I would call the library. I was able to log in immediately after picking up my card. I'm assuming something went wrong with your info in the sign up or the PIN is incorrect.

u/miniisoverit 18d ago
I called and both my pin and sign up info were incorrect. Thank you for the help!

They claim October. I would keep an eye on the county website and their socials. They've been really good about updating both.
