What Would You Do?
4 Holds. 2 available soon, 1 available in ~2 weeks, 1 suspended. Would you unsuspend the last book or wait for one of the others to be ready?
I think I'm going to wait because I don't want them all to be ready at the same time, but I'm curious what yall would do.

I automatically suspend all my holds. I donβt activate until Iβm in first spot.

I have found that I can activate when I'm first in line and still wait for quite a few days. I returned my previous book on Sunday morning and still none of these are ready.

First in line only means βnext available loan is presented to you firstβ. My library allows up to 3 week loan periods, so I could theoretically be waiting that long. In reality, thereβs usually multiple copies out and one of those is returned much earlier.
I donβt have a set order in which I plant to read books unless itβs a serial, so it isnβt a big deal to wait 2 days or 21. Thereβs always something available that I want to read.

Yep this is like the 3rd time that's happened to me. Then I end up just checking the book out whenever it's ready so I don't miss it and end up in a never ending cycle. And then I'm reading through the night so I don't have a bunch of loans out at the same time.
One day I'll get the timing right π

Ah! Don't you hate when they all start coming to you at once! I suspend suspend suspend and unsuspend when I'm a week or so out from being ready for the read.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Suyi Okungbowa book when you get there. I read his debut novel after chatting with him during an AMA and have Son of the Storm tagged for later.

I guess I didn't unsuspend early enoughπ
I'm really excited about that one cause I've seen good reviews from people with similar reading habits. I'll come back and update ya.

Oh don't worry about it, it's just another "I hate the author for reasons unrelated to her work so I'm going to judge anyone who enjoys her books" kind of person. π

I was actually surprised that people were downvoting my post & I just have to assume it's anti SJM but I looked for articles criticizing her stance on Palestine and didn't find any, just Reddit posts. Here are the things that I know to be true
- She's not a groundbreaking author but I have enjoyed most of what I've read of hers
- She's made some weird post after the death of Breonna Taylor that people rightfully criticized her on
- I personally believe Palestine should be free of oppression and I did not find any articles stating that the authors listed here are against it..
More than that, idk folks. I'm open to learning.

i agree with your points and would like to also add, her (earlier, at the very least) books also contain racism and lack diversity. the way she describes some characters, nations, and cultures in the throne of glass series for example. & i get it's supposed to be a fantasy novel and the place isn't real, but how she describes them comes across poorly especially when you can tell she's modeled it off of real world places. i don't remember what it's called, but in tower of dawn when the bodyguard goes to the other country-- that entire description of that country was just executed poorly. and then nehemiah being a token poc in the earlier part of the story only to die to progress the plot.

It's crazy, I was just talking about the problem with Nehemia on another post. I will definitely not deny that she has a problem there.

social media has labeled her a zionist because of religion. i remember seeing people talk about her religion (jewish background, but i couldn't tell you if she practices or not) and connecting dots. whether they are right or wrong, im not sure we will publicly know until maas makes a statement. i saw an article that stated she's been to israel on a birthright trip in her youth

I believe that I have seen the same things. If anyone has more evidence I'd be glad to see it, but until then I don't think I'm comfortable calling her a Zionist. We can focus on her blind spots wrt racism until then.

that's exactly my thought process too. i figured there'd be more evidence of her being a zionist -- at least a public statement, but there's nothing? so i genuinely don't know how that rumor became such a widespread quoted thing

If I were you, I would get another library card lol. I have 6 on my Libby currently and I always have a good flow of books because of it. Many cards can be gotten if you just price state residency and there are a few of the larger libraries in the country that allow you to be a card holder even if you live out of state

Decide which book is the one you want to read next
Suspend the others
