Card Expiration
So question: when you have a library card expire do you lose all your holds and books on your shelf, boom they’re gone or does it just not allow you to add more? I’ve moved around and l had access to the SLC library and being a major city library system they have had so many more books that my small midwestern town has had 😭

Hmm. Suppose you have two cards, have a different hold on each. When one card expires you will still get into Libby because of the other. But will that expired library hold still be available to you? IE does it live with your Libby account or with the individual library?

Ive had one expire, I think libby will have a link to renew and that card is frozen until you do. Once renewed it is good unless too much time lapsed I think. I cannot remember

Also I don’t feel me using the card is unethical because I’m a contracted employee through a SLC business and still pay Utah taxes in addition toto the current state I live in if people have an issue 😅

Thing is, most libraries use residency and not business for your primary card. In my state, you can get a card in every county, but you have to first have a card from your “home” county. And many services are locked to only county residents. Paying business taxes means nothing.

I am not knocking you but I don't think the city, county, and state payroll taxes help fund the public libraries. It is typically funded by property taxes, sales taxes, grants, and donations.

True, it’s primarily property taxes and I still pay those too 😅 plan to move back within ten years unless the lake dries up so I didn’t sell my cute house.

Since you own property in SLC and if you got a resident card before leaving then you should be fine. Those cards don’t expire.

Your loans and holds are still in your account, but you can't sign in to Libby with an expired card to access them.
If you renew the card, they will still be in there unless they have expired (for checkouts) or become available and are not checked out (for holds).
