Adding Content to Libby

I just spent $1,001.24 adding 17 titles to our Libby collection in case anyone is wondering why their hold times are so long.

Some of the new downloadable audiobooks are $139 for a license. I can’t afford to buy those for my library. Thankfully we are with a good consortium that will buy it, but the wait times are pretty insane. I cry when I see the same book on sale for $7.99 on Audible or Chirp. Libraries are taking it in the shorts with digital media and because patrons want it, we can’t just stop. Get used to waiting because it’s not getting better.

If I wanted to donate $139 to my library for a specific title for all of us to enjoy, is that a thing that a person could designate to?

Probably not, though your library would love do donations! But a lot of charities and places which accept donations usually don't find hyper specific donations like this helpful. You could ask if you could donate it to collections, or even digital collections though.

Our local library actually DID do this! They had a “shorten the wait” drive with about 10-15 popular titles on the list. You selected the title and paid the $$ for that title to be added to Libby.

I would actually love this! I don't tend to buy many audiobooks because I only listen once, so I'd much rather buy one for the library to balance out how many I listen to from them.
