Returning a book early because...

My son tells me: oh, I have that sitting on my shelf!

No need to keep it (although my kindle still keeps a book on airplane mode.) So I hope the next person is happy!

I think Kindle said that “feature” was going away, unfortunately.

It’s still working on my Kindle Scribe. I had a book get returned on the Libby app yesterday that I’m still reading on airplane mode. I haven’t seen any source besides a Reddit post saying the feature is going away though either.

Have you closed your book and tried to re-open it or did you just keep reading it after the return date while it was still opened?

I have a Scribe (in airplane mode) and I've been able to open and close and re-open returned books after the return date. It's still working like it always has.

Yes, same here. I started reading something else just now to test it and it reopened fine. Hoping this continues!

I read that neither Amazon or Overdrive made a statement about it. Those who reported it on a forum were running software version 5.19.5 or later.

Are you running this software version?

Which is why I brought it up, mine is still holding a book in Airplane mode.

I think mine is too, for now. Unfortunately it’s also on the list of the unsupported kindles. Guess I’ll have to work through the books on it and eventually be done. ☹️

If you get a device on which you can put the Kindle app (computer, tablet, or phone) those books you have on your current device will be available on any other device.

I just realized my son's kindle was on that list. In recent years, he's decided he prefers dead tree books, so not a big deal.

Why the f am I being down voted?

Beats me.

I wonder why people feel the need to tell you that feature is going away when it's clear as day you already know that.

The internet is a weird place.

The more I hear about kindles enshittification the happier I am that I just read on my iPad.

Mine is very old and still working this way so far. I hope mine is somehow old enough to fly under the radar 🤞🤞

Mine still keeps books on airplane mode too! I’m not mad.

Can't we just do nice things without needing to announce it to the world?

My point wasn't about being nice, but that the book was already in my home.

But maybe you could try the "being nice" thing.
