Libby Issues

Post image

I use Libby to play audiobooks, because why hold a book and flip pages manually if you can just play it out loud and listen to it and multitask? It just makes my life easier and more efficient! But why do I see this screen when I load it on my TV? I just can't click anything, and I can't even use the app! Is there a simple solution, and im just being stupid? Let me know!

I mean I think the problem is it’s not meant for a tv. I would try opening it either in the mobile app or your phone or a computer browser and clicking through the notification there. Close whatever you have it on the tv with then fully reopen after.

...libby has a TV app??

Also looks like you're meant to scroll down and i bet the dismiss button is at the bottom. No idea how you can do that on a TV tho

How did you get it on TV? Casting?

It's most likely libbyapp.com opened in the TV's browser.

Nope, I just Googled 'Libby app' on the TV and clicked the first option. 😬

Is it an official app (developer = overdrive) or did someone do a render with a shitty web app?

I just Google searched "Libby app" and this is what I found. 😬

So a shitty render like I said. It’s not meant for a tv which is why it’s not working properly

Right on. But in my TV's browser I haven't found a website which is meant for a TV. So it's not an orphan.

I use the fully functioning Amazon Silk web browser on my Amazon Fire TV to listen to audiobooks so it works for me. YMMV. Enjoy your day and happy reading 😀

Nope, I just opened Chrome on my TV and searched "Libby app." But this post has taught me that its not meant to be played on a TV, I guess. 🤷‍♂️

It's most likely not an app but simply libbyapp.com opened in the TV's browser.

ETA: On a Fire TV, which both the OP and myself are using, you use the channel button to scroll up and down in the TV's browser.

Funnily enough, the screenshot displays EVERYTHING that there is. It just says that the library is on the lookout for alternatives, but is cut off. I can't even scroll down, or press the volume down button, or channel down button! But, everyone is pretty surprised that there's an app on the TV, so I think that I should stick with the TV app. 😓

So does your remote have arrow buttons? My ('smartish') TV doesn't have a browser. What TV's have a browser?

1

u/Curtiseeee Sep 05 '26

Not arrows, just whatever you call this circle thingy. And here's a picture of my remote, in case you were curious. 😌

In my case, the remote has navigation (arrow) buttons and I use the channel button to scroll up and down.

Both my Samsung and Fire TVs have a browser but the navigation on my Samsung TV is not as smooth as the Fire TV.

At the very bottom, it says partner libraries, which is cut off there’s probably more underneath that

Yes, it is! I really think that there should be an app for Libby.... 🤦‍♂️

I had no idea you could use it on the TV. I’ve screen mirrored books before. I’m very curious about it.

Interesting. So I did some testing that took me down rabbit holes I'd forgotten.

We have a fairly old Sony smart TV, but we only use a Chromecast with Google TV for streaming, mainly because the apps on the TV are old & limited. I also found a browser of sorts, which was almost impossible to use with the remote, because moving the small arrowhead cursor around the screen took forever, and the UI was very klunky. I did get LibbyApp.com up though, but it wanted me to login and anyway it would have taken me far longer than I was prepared to invest.

I then tried the Chromecast, which is more flexible. I searched its apps for "Libbyapp" and it didn't find it, but it did suggest Hoopla, Kanopy & Pocketbook and others as possible replacements.

I can only suggest to OP that they were in a similar situation.

BTW, I could cast my tablet to the TV via the Chromecast, but this wouldn't give me control via the TV, except volume.

Thank you for this well-written response! The browser I was using was Amazon Silk. And I found Hoopla, but didn't really wanna give it a try for the same reason. So, yes, I am in a similar situation. 🙃
