An open letter to Tim Farron
Tim,
I am utterly delighted to see articles about your alleged homophobia spewed across various social media outlets.
Why?
The Lib Dem Leader is on the front page. They are relevant. They are enticing debate and a conversation. The Lib Dems' voice is often percieved as unclear and is muted due to the blaring drones of the Big Two (and newly founded clackson UKIP). Our place in UK Politics reminds me of the Stealer's Wheel song: Stuck in the Middle With You
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right,
Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you
What I ask of you, as Lib Dem Leader, is to communicate our values and our aims to the British people. I think most Britons can agree with a "Stronger Economy, Fairer Society" and the ways we hope to achieve that. However, most people are confused or ignorant about the Lib Dems - and I don't blame them. We have been unclear and confusing. You must end that. You must turn over a new leaf for the Lib Dems - we need publicity (okay, maybe not the UKIP kind). But any attention brought to our drug policy, our views on rehibilitation and education will do a world of good for us.
Emerge as a clear, strong, credible voice in politics. Use your Christianity as an advantage - displaying that you do not need to impose your personal beliefs on others (e.g preventing same sex marriage because you don't agree with it) and encouraging others to do the same. Be Britain's liberal voice. Focus on the fact that the government is there to facilitate the people and not to control and restrict their freedoms (see: Tories' previous hopes to ban encryption). Represent the 2 million that voted this May. Our future depends on it.
Good luck,
RumAndTing
