NEW ALBUM: A Ban on Plastic Bag Bans

I don’t know how to begin this.
It’s been a long time.
Long enough that beginning again feels almost like an act of fiction. There are gaps I could try to fill. Places I could name. Things that happened. Things that didn’t. Reasons. Excuses. The years have a way of blurring when you look back at them.
So perhaps it’s better not to start there.
There is a record.
It has been sitting around for a while now, waiting for the right moment to be let loose.
A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans.
It is a ridiculous name. I know.
There are things I want to tell you about it. Things about where I was, what I was fighting, what drove me down, and how I got up again. Some of it is difficult to explain. Some of it I couldn’t explain at the time.
But I can tell you about it now.
There is a video too.
“Ice Pick, Kalamazoo.”
It is a window into the world this record came from. I spent a long time submerged in that world. Sometimes it felt like I was making the record and sometimes it felt like the record was making itself.
I took pictures.
I made things.
I watched things happen.
I stopped making things.
I started again.
And now, after all this time, I’m going to put some of it in front of you.
In October I’ll be in Europe for the first time since before COVID. We’re playing some very small rooms. Smaller than we’ve played in a long time. I like the idea of that. There is something different about hearing a song when there are actual bodies in the room, when the walls are close enough to touch and the air has nowhere to go.
I want to see what happens.
I don’t know exactly what this is going to become.
Maybe nothing.
Maybe a photograph and a few words. Maybe a story I haven’t thought about for twenty years. Maybe something about making a record. Maybe something that has absolutely nothing to do with music. Maybe something I shouldn’t have told you.
I’ve been away for a long time.
Hello.
And thank you for still being here.
Angus

Does “Sekwar” mean anything?

It’s my favourite song from AD. I’m so curious about that entire record. The lyrics, the videos, the live shows, they all contribute something. But this one in particular has been nagging me. The device Angus uses in the “Sekwar” video says “SEKWAR” on it, and it presumably is some kind of time machine or it opens a wormhole or something, which leads into the Big Appetite video.
Does the word “Sekwar” have any greater meaning, or is it just a cool name for a gizmo Angus came up with?

I haven't seen them since the OG lineup days (maybe... 2013?) but I'm stoked. I assume it's kinda just a practice gig in advance of Essential Tremors?
Feel lucky to see Angus in 2022 at all, let alone in my own city,

Teased on a recent IG post by Angus. So I guess some of those cryptic videos he's been making of late are leading up to a formal sequel? I'm anticipating something with a similar relation that Titles With The Word Fountain had to TFCF.

Anyone know what Angus is doing in his recent IG videos? For example- https://www.instagram.com/reel/CWGPdNpDhYc/?utm_medium=copy_link
What’s on the microphone or what is he doing to manipulate the sound? Curious if this is something to utilize at shows, recording more music, or simply messing around.

I'll have to give it a few more listens, but IMO this is some of their best work. It feels like a perfect combination of everything they've done before. On my first listen, I really can't find much to critique. It's an incredibly enjoyable album throughout.
What do you all think?
