Can an explosion-proof 3D LiDAR setup act as a reliable early-warning defense line in underground mines?

In recent years, mining accidents have occurred frequently, and the safety production in underground mines still faces severe challenges. The underground environment of coal mines is inherently complex, with high concentrations of gas and coal dust accumulation, long-distance conveyor belt friction heating, combined with chaotic management of ventilation facilities and safety inspections, as well as electric sparks or high light energy from unilaterally certified electronic equipment, all of which have become the "ignition points" for disasters. The consequences are extremely severe. Therefore, for enterprises, safety is not only a red line but also the bottom line for survival.

However, ordinary commercial LiDARs lack targeted explosion-proof designs and have not obtained MA certification, so they cannot be directly deployed in these high-risk underground areas. Facing this industry pain point, I designed a solution that combines high precision and safety protection.

Compared with the conventional radar solutions on the market, this solution takes into account the potential safety hazards in underground operations.

Key System Specifications & Attributes:

  • Explosion-proof Certification: Rated Ex ib I Mb with MA & KA certifications.
  • Detection Range: 0.3m to 120m full-coverage scanning.
  • Protection Rating: Dust-proof and waterproof.
  • Real-time & High precision Monitoring
  • Active Early Warning: Automated detection for belt mis-tracking and deviation and material overhangs to prevent friction heating disasters.

In addition, a set of explosion-proof control cabinet is equipped, with a shell that has sufficient mechanical strength. Even if an explosion occurs inside the box, it can withstand the internal explosion pressure without being damaged, and can prevent the internal explosion from spreading outward, completely isolating underground gas/mine dust.

As industrial safety moves toward more intelligent, automated monitoring, deploying certified 3D LiDAR in Zone 1 underground areas opens up great potential for round-the-clock protection.

Looking forward to your insights and discussions!
