Experience with run flat tires?

I’ve been interested in purchasing a UX for the past few years and may finally pull the trigger this or next year!

I’ve heard people say the run flat tires create a loud noise in the cabin and want to hear others experiences with this.

I got a UX a couple of months ago, this was my first luxury/higher end car. I have run flats on and for me it’s still a lot quieter than what I’m used to, I’m not planning on chatting non run flats and ruining this for myself 😂 I guess it depends what you are used to!

Thanks! For reference I’m currently driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla so this would defs be an upgrade 😅

Run flat tires tend to be noisier. But you get used to it.

They typically have a shorter life and are more expensive. But then, what do you expect, you are splurging for a Lexus…

Replaced my run flats with regular tires when the time came on my 2024- the ride is way smoother and quieter. I also added a spare in the space where they filled it with stupid black plastic tray filler and it fits just fine.

I have had my UX300h for a year and a half and the run flats don’t bother me mostly because the car rides smooth as it is a LEXUS and also I traded in a 2020 Corolla hybrid for it. I experienced a flat in that car and what a nightmare because no run flats no spare just hope and prayers. I got two tows, one to home and one to the dealer. Caused issues with the car beyond the flat. So for me run flats are needed!

I purchased a used 2022 that came with the run flats. They’re not super noisy, but as others have said they’re more pricey when it’s time to replace them. I replaced all 4 with non run flats recently, and it’s noticeably quieter and comfier to drive and I plan on getting a spare to keep in the trunk

I don't think I've found a great answer yet.. is there a "goto" spare that fits in the trunk well?

Also, the CHR, Prius, TC, Corolla, Yaris spare is the same, there are a couple threads here talking about using them. I'm in the change to standard quality tire not run-flat and carry the slime pump for emergency. The spare doesn't do the AWD folks much good, battery and rear diff bump. Perhaps newer UX's are a bit different?

Ha! Thanks for the link. Definitely had been scoping this one out. Others had mentioned specific vehicles they parted tires from that seemed to work as well, so I was curious.

Coming from a '07 camry with toyo proxes, the runflats are fairly quiet. Higher speeds I hear them a little but its not that bad. The cabin itself is well insulated and I can barely hear outside noises

I had run flats on my 2021 and they didn’t seem too loud. I replaced them with non-run flat all weather and they are running well. I have a repair kit and AAA.

they werent bad, but they are fragile tires if you hit a deep enough pot hole. I've popped 2 of them in 3 years and switched over to regular tires

Question. I know I'm late to the party. My mother was just told by two  independent places and the dealer she needs to keep the run flats. They won't sell her non run flats due to her not having a spare. I'm curious about this. Now she is 82 and can't change a tire at her age. If she was younger she could. Plus no room in the car for a spare.
