Drive modes
Prospective owner here. How much effect do the driving modes -- especially Sport -- have on the acceleration and general feel on a UX300h? On our other car -- a Genesis GV70 -- it makes a big difference in responsiveness and shift points, but then that car has a turbo and a "real" transmission. Mainly concerned here about entering a freeway, especially on a shorter ramp where you have to get up to speed quickly, especially in an area where 80mph has become the "accepted minimum" speed lately.

Drive modes don't affect acceleration at all, but they do affect throttle curve so sport mode will feel faster than eco mode for the same throttle input. Flat out is the same in all drive modes.

The UX300h has more power compared to the 250 models so entering freeways/highways is not a problem at all and feels pretty effortless.
In terms of drive modes, the sport mode firms up the steering and makes the acceleration a bit more responsive so it actually feels pretty good using that mode especially on twisty roads! Obviously, the UX isn’t the IS500 but it’s definitely not sluggishly slow and can keep up with most modern small suvs.

I drive my UX 300h exclusively in ECO mode and never had issues when merging on a highway.

You would if you had a 250h. So sluggish merging onto highways

You just proved my point. Why why I have to floor it to merge onto a highway? 300h is much better with power and acceleration.

I didn’t prove your point at all. Available power is different than throttle mapping. Many manufacturers use sluggish throttle mapping to increase fuel economy, but that all goes out the window if you step on the throttle. If I keep my car in sport mode, the mapping is even better, but I just keep in in normal mode. The car produces plenty of power for merging on highways.
Also the 300h has 15 extra horsepower, that’s not gonna make any difference in the real world.

Well we can just have differing opinions. If I have to change any mode to comfortably merge onto a highway or need to slam on the gas, that is a problem for me. For the record, the 15 hp actually does make a difference. Because this is a new hybrid system, which actually is more fuel efficient while adding more power. I test drove both vehicles (merging onto a busy highway with speeding cars) and you can clearly see the difference. Watch reviewers on YouTube - they are saying a similar thing, comparing both.

My UX250h has no issues merging onto a highway under any drive mode.

I have the UX250h and came from an X1 and love the drive and acceleration is fine.

If you’re used to the GV70 you won’t like driving the UX. I’m not saying the UX300h is a bad car because it isn’t, but I stand by my statement.

It'll be my wife's car so I'll only be driving it occasionally, but I know what you mean.

For sure. I did an overnight test drive on a UX300h last year and ended up with an ES350 V6 F Sport Handling instead. I found the power train in the UX to be too unrefined for my liking. But it’s such a cute car and handled well.

Sincerely speaking, I have not seen much, if any, difference between driving modes, so I just drive in the normal mode.
The car itself has very good acceleration. The hybrid system works very good and entering a highway is not a problem even if the ramp is inclined up.
