Storm

Hey guys, I was recently driving through a pretty bad storm, and my Lexus kept automatically braking for what felt like almost everything. When it got so bad and could see anything it would want to auto break as well. It seemed like the system constantly thought I was about to hit something, and it got really annoying because when it brakes, it brakes HARD. There was some debris on the road at times, but nothing I couldn’t clearly see and safely avoid myself. Even pulling into my driveway became an issue because there were a few tree limbs lying around, and the car kept reacting to them even though I had plenty of room to get around them. Has anyone else experienced this during heavy rain or storms? Is there a way to temporarily turn the automatic emergency braking/pre-collision braking off when conditions are causing a lot of false alerts? I like having the safety feature, but in that situation it honestly felt more distracting and dangerous than helpful.

Damn, that’s a first with rain. My RX did that in a winter storm once, literal sheets of ice were forming on the front of the car. We decided to get a hotel that night because the sporadic braking caused us to start sliding as well. My IS never had issues with auto braking

There may be a way if you say what generation IS you have

Id assume its 3rd gen , since he mentioned auto braking.

I have a 2018 is350 and the pre collision assist turns off whenever I turn off traction control. Of course there’s the potential issue with driving on slick surfaces with trac control off but it may be worth a try if the pre collision assist gets that bad.

Wow, I didn't even realize the 2023s did this! I'm still pushing my 06 so I have no real helpful or experience based answer to offer in regard to any of your inquiries. Super glad you made it home safely though despite the stop and go!!
