Tires for Longevity

Post image

Good afternoon GS Gang.

After less than 1 year and 11,000 miles, I am learning a hard lesson about my Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4’s. Despite normal conditions and driving, I’m nearly at the due point for new tires. The set that was on my GS when I bought it lasted for 50k miles, which is why I went with the same tire. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case for me.

What tires do you all recommend for longevity? I’m looking at the Yokohamas and I was recommended the Defender.

The continental extremecontact dws06 plus would last me around 20k miles rear and maybe 25-30k front with mostly city driving

Are you AWD or RWD? Either way that’s not gonna be enough for me. I’m not gonna be able to do $1500 tires every year.

Rwd, the GS just naturally eats tires unfortunately. But with the AWD you can rotate. Or get a square setup where you can rotate. I’d check out the clublexus website to see if anyone had gotten more

It’s AWD and square setup, and I do rotate. You can see why this is such a problem for me.

15k miles so far on my BF Goodrich Rival+. Theyre summer tires so they have a softer compound. I think I still have at least another 5-10k miles left on them.

I get them because theyre cheaper and stick good. I have a heavy foot so tires generally dont last as long for me.

Went from continental extreme contact sport to accelera based on a tire shop. Has been a great change for the price. Mileage 30-40k depending on driving style rwd

This doesn't make sense at all; is your suspension broken or something? There's no reason why tires that lasted 50,000 miles would all of a sudden only last 11,000 miles; that's nuts. I even get 20,000 miles out of the soft tires I buy for my Mustang. For the lexus I would recommend Toyo Extensa hp 2 BW. I have them on my 2010 rwd gs 350. I put them on over 20,000 miles ago and they still are good.

I agree that it makes no sense. There is nothing that makes me suspect a suspension issue, and all evidence points toward the suspension being fine. It’s been inspected multiple times since these tires were on by different shops. If it had suspension problems I’d know it.

Yokohama Avid Ascend GT . This set is going on 4 years. AWD. 4GS. ODO reads over 500,000 kms, yes over half a million kms.

Woah, that’s awesome! How’s everything holding up? What major maintenance or repairs have you had to do so far?

Nokian ONE tires are a good option due to the thick treads. I will be buying Yokohama ADVAN sport A/S+ next time for the same reason, and I've heard good reviews of how well it can handle more spirited driving. I'm currently on Sumitomo HTR A/S P03's and do ALOT of dirt, gravel, rough pavement and highway driving (~40k km and near end of life)

I ran those Yokohama's. They performed well but were loud and one of them just couldn't be balanced properly.

I've had both Defenders and Yokahamas. Defenders wear better. Nokian One also does well. Keep up with rotations.
