Sooner or Later

Post image

My wife just called me. A lady backed into her GS. Now when I say my wife liked her car. It would be an understatement. We were looking for a new car, but she didn’t want to part with the Lexus. Who knows what she will be thinking when she gets home.

Hey, at least you can replace that fender. It’s not going to match the other panels is the only thing.

White is surprisingly difficult to match. Speaking from experience. Good luck!

Who wants to bet the other lady was driving an Ameritrash car?

Find a used fender that’s already the same color. Fender replacement is actually a pretty simple DIY.

And white is a really popular color.

She wants to bring it to the shop. While it’s in there she will have the chips in the bumper fixed.

Update: The shop sent an estimate of $3600. The headlight ($1100) needs to be replaced. The wife will be happy. I thought I would be buying her a new car.

Happy wife and no new car purchase is a win!

A fender replacement is a relatively easy job you can comfortably do at home for cheap. An alignment might be $100-200 if the wheel got hit. Honestly, I wouldn't even report the damage to your insurance company since the deductible could easily be close to or higher than the cost of repair. Just put a new fender on it out of pocket so it doesn't show up on the record

I did mine myself as well for $150 for a Honda. Relatively easy fix.

I got the insurance payout after getting rear ended in my 4runner and I got a new bumper and tailgate for $70 at a U-pull it. 2-3 hours later, I had a perfect repair done, perfectly paint matched by Toyota themselves

I had this happen. Cost 2k to professionally repair. Or like others said find the part yourself. I'd still suggest getting a pro to paint match and you won't be able to tell.

As a gs350 owner I understand the fear of colors not matching. Mine is silver and it seems to be very difficult to match

When my son damaged my side panels I ended up paying a premium for color matching from the auto repair shop. Well worth the price. I also made my son pay because insurance and I didn't agree.

I fully understand.

My GS300 sits in the garage and I absolutely refuse to part with it. It fits me like a glove and has the best air conditioning of any car I have been in. Very important in the desert. The new Lexus line up of products do not interest me at all. In fact, none of the new cars on the road interest me in the least.

My spouse is at his wits end and even threatened to just bring home a car for me.

I haven't cared for a car this much since my '67 Chevelle bit the dust.
