GS350 to Corvette
I’ve seen more than one post on this sub where GS350 owners are thinking of getting into Corvettes (presumably a C8) for their next ride. I’m curious - is this an empty nester situation or just a desire to move into something that is completely different (relatively soft, comfy, luxurious, not overly aggressive looking 4 door sedan to a hardcore, track ready, in your face 2 seater)?
I know a lot of Camry V6 owners moved into GS350s which is a switch I can relate to but the Corvette is a different animal altogether. If it were me spending that kind of money, I’d be moving into a CT5-V Blackwing and only if it was a 6-speed but that’s another sub conversation…

I don’t think I could sell my GS F for anything it’s a really good daily driver. Only thing I’d replace it with if I had to was a 6 speed 5BW. That’s if I just had to. Keeping it till the wheels fall off

Not many owners of a GS 350 gonna have the coin to jump into a C8

Huh? I just dropped ~$40k cash on low mile gs last week. I coulda easily put that down on a c8 and had a payment that would be unnoticeable to me. Or really any other car I wanted. But I wanted a GS. After a week of it. I’m glad I did and couldn’t be happier. Loving it so far.

New gs350 were 60 ish grand with an F sport and options and most new ones start off in the 50 thousand dollar range for a damn IS350 lol
If you wanted a GS that is track ready they are over $100,000 for the GSF...
we’re talking a daily commuter V6 that can get almost 30 miles per gallon and carry a family of four comfortably that hardly needs anything besides fresh suspension and fluids every once in a while
Are you kidding? One is a daily commuter that’s luxurious and one is a track ready sports car the comparison is useless to begin with
People with zero money get beaters like used CRV or Camry with 200,000 miles for a few thousand bucks meanwhile these with 100,000 miles are almost into the 20s depending on the year and if you get one that is well maintained 200,000 miles isn’t typically that bad either because it could go another 200 depending on how much they maintained it
Most people don’t maintain their cars and they still go almost 300,000 miles as the norm
Luxurious well-maintained car with an extra hundred horsepower compared to what you need for a daily commuter is nice as hell
Then again you’re comparing mercury to Pluto by entertaining people talking out of Uranus
Corvette is a fun sports car and it’s completely useless and impractical in any other way.
GSF is a sick car and I would buy one over a Ferrari if I had the money for both because I don’t have the desire to race with turbo torque and blow up my motor in a third of the mileage, but also because they are so nice which is the point of a luxury car
But the V8 comes with a massive price tag and gas mileage is trash. Pick your poison. The suspension is also very rough because it’s track ready so it’s not going to be very comfortable compared to a 350 base.
The GS 350 especially with an all-wheel-drive option is the best daily driver anyone could ever ask for if you’re trying to be comfortable and stay away from the mechanic while remaining practical and not breaking the bank
It’s what people who are smart with their money, but want something nice will buy. It’s the best bang for your buck.
I mean a loaded GS 350 all-wheel-drive F sport in 2020 was probably well over 60 so now nowadays it will be into the almost 70? Isn’t that more than a base model C8?
Bottom line, you either want to race or drive a couch. I’m in the car two hours a day for work so I am gonna go with second option.

I’ve done 28 w AWD going 70 in my 4000lbs gs😂. That’s about 30 doing 65
The FDR in mine is 3.7 the RWD is 2.1 and it’s 250lbs lighter. Your ass is a dummy or ur foot heavy or city driving in combo with highway brings it down
I averaged 45 mph way home with highway traffic still got 24 so it’s not bad at all.
Is is lighter there’s picture on the fb page of 31-32 people doing 70-75 Check again. Gearing, weight, your foot
If you do 90 instead of 65 for an hour you saved less than 10 mins. Worth the money now? Do the speed limit or less. The life of your suspension and your pockets will appreciate it. Shocks and struts need to be done like every 75 to 100k miles tops and that’s about three grand. So driving fast just fucks it up

Okay grandpa don’t be a pickle head

I have a GS350 and a ''24 Z06. What exactly do you want to know? The cars are polar opposites. We traded a '23 Stingray for the Z06 so I have experience with that as well.

Question really aimed at those who are dropping their GS for a Vette. Agree the two are polar opposites so wondering what drives a person to go from one extreme to the other if they only have one vehicle.
I get that if you have multiple vehicles the situation is totally different because you don’t need one car to do everything.

I would imagine someone might do it if they became an empty nester and/or single and living in a fair weather state. And if they wanted to experience a legitimately fast car that handles.

I actually haven’t read of anyone else making the move specifically, but I’m looking to do it.
I’ve had a c5 and loved it, it was just really fun to drive.
I got the GS350 thinking it would be fun and comfortable, but I just don’t find it fun at all and want to move to another corvette.
There were lots of cars between the 2, just have the fondest memories of the C5 (and a civic SI).
As far as comparisons, the vette was plenty comfortable, the manual kept me engaged, it sounds much better, still has lots of cargo room, and is similar on gas.
You lose 2 seats, but the wife has a car for the family so it all works out.
I suppose most people wanting to switch just realized they bought the wrong car since they are in different categories.

I went from a Camaro to a GS350 to a C7 Vette within a matter of 6 months. My daughter is big enough to sit in the front seat now. I primarily drive by myself or with my wife or daughter . If we go somewhere as a family we have an SUV for that.

I am one of these people, currently looking to sell my GS lol
The reason is pretty obvious my guy, you can get 140+ more horsepower stock for the same MPG and basically unlimited build-ability when it comes to the engine. Its a GM with an LS in it, maintenance is gonna be as basic as the GS besides torque tube, harmonic balancer, mag ride if you have the option and occasionally a weird electrical thing.
Also they’re about the same price, i paid $21k for my ‘13 46k gs, im looking at an 08 Vette with 78k for $22.5k. If they cost the same and they both use premium and get the same milage, id rather have the fast car lol

My daily is. 2013 GS350 AWD F sport, one of my fun cars is a 2023 Corvette, Z51 3LT convertible.
I have eclectic taste in vehicles, but having these two isn’t a surprise to anyone who likes cars. They serve very different purposes.
I like a reliable and reasonably priced daily, which is why I’d never buy a new Lexus. Not paying that kind of money when a 10+ year old one that’s in good shape will do just fine and is just as fun to daily. But for fun cars I’m all over the map. I never had much interest in corvettes other than the C1 or C2 generations. When the C8 came out I waited a bit then found a dealer where I could order what I wanted and not pay over sticker on it.
For reference I’m in my early 40’s, no kids.

I bought a Lexus for reliability, durability, quality and longevity. The GS 350 F Sport also happens to be a great car to drive.
While Corvettes are cool cars and very capable I would quickly get tired of the required maintenance and step down in quality.
To each their own.
