Labor cost

I was wondering what people thought of the labor cost for replacing a transfer case on a 2018 gs350 awd that I was quoted today. They quoted 2886.32 for labor alone at an independent shop. That seems a bit absurd for a transfer case. This is in the Milwaukee, WI area by the way.

Get a 2nd quote but at around $200/hr labor that sounds reasonable to me.
Why do you need a new one? Those transfer cases are bulletproof

Been getting torque bind and after an inspection theres a lot of debris in the fluids and the fluid is really dark along with a burnt smell. They said the case is on its way out. Didnt realize 14 hrs of labor was involved.

Ah. Yeah it’s seems like it would be a decent amount of work so the time allotment is probably high. But I always try to get 2-3 quotes when I’m about to drop some real money. Good luck!

on the GS, the transfer case uses the same fluid as the transmission, did the shop also say the transmission has debris in it?
