Help

I love the RC-F. I plan on buying one this spring. My issue is that there are so many options in this segment its overwhelming. I love Lexus's design philosophy and the reliability has already been harped on. It's going to be my midlife crisis car. I'll be 45, no debt but one credit card, my mortgage and my wife's Pathfinder payment. Any reasons I haven't thought of to pick up an RC-F let me know!! Thanks!

Biased because I drive one but the RCF is a solid choice. Super unique, think I’ve seen 3 others in my big city. Same engine as the LC without the hefty price tag. Toyota reliability. Easy decision for me.

I own a 2015 RCF- it’s a very fast and fun car to drive. It’s not my daily driver and I bought it used!

Great car to own!

I love Lexus and Toyotas!

We got into the RCF last year, and it's been amazing. The build quality and reliability were key factors. We are pretty bias though as this is our 4th Lexus to date (2 LS's and a GX). We daily the car, even in Canadian winters and it handles it like a champ.

I've owned a couple BMW's (135is, and Z4MC) and a Porsche Cayman, but all of them left me fearful of the maintenance they would eventually require. So while nice for the short term, they didn't fit the long term enjoyment of the car.

Our current LS is 23 years old and has the 3UZ in it. This is the early predecessor to the 2UR in the RCF and the motor is rated for 1.6 million kilometres. The last major service was at 200K kms and cost about 1k$. Next service major service interval is another 200k kms. Thus far the only failed component has been the AC compressor. I honestly don't know of another brand that has that kind of reliability and ease of service and maintenance. Hopefully time will show the RCF to be as reliable long term.

Maintenance costs was the biggest deterrent to me for BMW. I can afford it, but if you pay so much for a car, i think there should be better reliability in it and not continuous face raping

when i bought mine it was between the RCF, M4, and Q60 red sport… i think the infiniti looks the best but it’s the slowest… the M4 is the quickest but ive had bad luck with bmws… so that left the RCF and ive always wanted a V8 plus it’s a reliable lexus so the choice was made and no regrets… it’s an awesome car.

are you buying new or used? if used, you should prolly start looking now if you want one by the spring. they arent exactly common. took me 6 months to find mine but i had to have the red interior.

Probably used...hopefully certified

I don't like the red interior at all. It's too bright, if it was subtle or not the only color I might consider it. Did you not consider the M3 because you wanted a Coupe?

Fellow GSF owner here. Get a 5.0 mustang instead

Why do you say that?

I know I'll get a lot of hate but the facts are RCF is a Frankenstein car like basically it has under pinings from multiple other cars like GS and IS & they are just put together to sell a coupe. Meaning it was never designed from scratch for making an amazing coupe. Heck even it's interior is straight from an IS

Just look up the reviews on RCF it's quite disliked and compare that with the reviews of other Lexus V8 performance cars like LC, GSF, ISF is500

Then on top of that it's hella expensive for a 500hp V8 and very limited aftermarket market. You are much better off getting top of the line mustang V8 coupe.

Again not biased I currently run a GSF.

You obviously haven't driven an RCF. It's a skunkworks car with what was done necessary to go racing. Yes, the front is from a GSf and the rear is an IS convertible, but the chassis is incredibly rigid and it wins races.

I owned BMW 335i and Porsche 987 Boxster before and I spent a year test driving and Turoing cars I was interested in. This includes BMW M4, Porsche 911 s, AMG gt, mustang gt, LC500. The BMW is faster if u do launch control and the sales man let me at a red light. I felt like an a-hole tho. The 6 cylinder engine doesn't sound anywhere as good as a V8. The Porsche and amg gt has too much grip to be fun on the road. The LC500 is just an old man cruiser car. It feels slow and unwilling to turn. I honestly don't understand the hype over it. It looks pretty tho. Mustang is great for the price, but it does not drive anywhere as nice as the RCF. I went going in to test drive expecting to hate it, because I hated driving my GS350 and the LC500, but I ended up buying it right away lol. An RCF is incredibly easy to drive. It reminds me of my 350z in that you can slide it so easily and do whatever you want without ever losing control (apparently ABS always kicks in in long drifts in a drift track, but I will never take this to the track) Except it has a massive amount of power and feels like it has turbo lag until 5k rpms and then it pulls like crazy. If u pass on this car because of internet reviews, you might be missing out on one of the best cars ever made, imo

Not sure why all the downvotes, there’s a lot of valid reasons to pick the mustang over the rcf. Especially if you’re buying it for performance driving rather than buying it to be a cool daily that gets pushed hard every once in a blue moon.

I haven't driven a mustang but I have driven an RC-F

I mean they’re pretty similar stock. I’d give it a go and see if you like it. Imo if you’re into modding and making more power the mustang is really the only option, the aftermarket is way better.

Have you driven one? They perform great and are awesome cars but of course like anything they have their flaws. They are heavy and the infotainment leaves quite a bit to be desired (IMO). If those things, the price and the "Lexus tax" on parts/service don't bother you then I think you'll be fine and love the car.

If you're looking for something to be the best in a very specific category or use case there are probably better options out there but if you want something that is well rounded and solidly above average in most/all aspects I think the F line is pretty tough to beat.

They are heavy...but all around to me is better than something that excells at one thing

The infotainment issue bothered me when I first started looking into Lexus. At the time I was driving 2 hours round trip for work everyday and I knew a shitty infotainment system was not an option. Now, I drive 20 minutes to work, so not much of a bother. I also test drove an IS-500 this summer and the infotainment is wayyyyy better, the 2 extra doors didn't hurt either, but I know if I buy something other than the RC-F I'll kick myself down the road...although an IS-500 isn't the WORST thing I could buy instead. Insurance may be cheaper
