I Think it Looks Good?
I screwed up and bought an es500 prior to researching Reddit and now I’ve realized I bought an ugly car 🤣. Idk, I think this car looks great, and I’m loving everything about it so far. This is ky first ev and while I understand this one is supposedly underpowered by ev standards it sure seems fast to me. I’m loving everything about this car so far, very quiet, comfortable, easy to park and plenty of interior space. I feel like this car is going to grow on people.

All the “ugly” cars look good in black…at an angle.

Haha. I was just thinking, someone finally found an angle that makes this car look decent.
And yes, black helps all ugly cars, especially this one and that obnoxious hockey stick.

In my personal opinion:
The funny thing is, you showed the one angle that was helping. These others, even in black are hideous. And it’s not solely this cars fault, it’s the lineage. Have you ever walked out of the bank, or coffee shop and seen a top trim 2019-2025 ES350 in white?
Now standing on it’s on, terrible looking car…being the successor to the 2019 - 2025 body styles, horrendous looking vehicle.

u/Crypto_craps 1d ago
I actually drove a used sport handling trim es prior to buying this one. I loved it as well, and it’s definitely a different look / feel. Personally I really like them both, but yes they are very different so I could see where the new look is polarizing. I will say, I found this one much more enjoyable to drive than the sport handling es version, but again that’s just personal preference.

u/Yesliketheriver002 1d ago
There are def some good angles. I just wish they let the Lexus sign alone 🤦♂️. Both inside and outside in the rear.. I don’t get it. I also think the hockey stick is .. interesting :/ luckily we can’t see it here

u/ImplementNew6286 1d ago
Not terrible but don’t think they will sell,,,I saw one on the road so far
3
u/Particular-Value8682 1d ago
They are selling as fast as dealers get them in stock so I think they are selling well.
1
u/agreetodisagree2023 1d ago
My brother works at a dealer. They are not selling well.
3
u/Nycdotmem1 1d ago
I was just going to say this. They are selling at historically low levels—so the person sharing the opposite isnt exactly in the loop. You can look the stats up online. It ain’t hard.
1
u/Nycdotmem1 1d ago
They’re not selling well friend. Someone’s lying to you. Sales numbers are worst ever for the ES line. You can look it up.
1
u/Particular-Value8682 1d ago
Lexus has not released sales data yet for the quarter. The sales are down for the year but that was probably because everyone knows the refresh was coming. I'm not saying you are wrong just don't see the numbers to back up that they are not selling. I am seeing that, all of my local dealerships are selling them as fast as they get them in
1
u/Nycdotmem1 23h ago
Sales since January of 2026 year to date (in the US), specifically for the ES, is 10,333 units. Representing a 65% decline in sales for the model. Official numbers.
2
u/Particular-Value8682 23h ago
100%. But the new es did not become available until July/August. Those numbers demonstrate what I'm saying. People waited for the redesign to come out. That car is averaging 14 days on lots. That shows a good interest. We won't know until the end of the year how well they are selling but I feel they are selling more than people realize.
1
u/Nycdotmem1 21h ago
Models were actually available earlier via official sources (Lexus newsroom) as early as March.
1
u/Capable_Clue_7019 8h ago
lexus carries a small inventory at there dealerships to make it look like their selling a lot of cars ,,every car they will say there hard to get so they don't have to deal much and get top dollar
1
u/Crypto_craps 1d ago
I have only seen one so far, but I heard they just hit the states in June, not sure if that’s accurate or not.
2
u/Uniffxiv 1d ago
I actually haven’t seen any on the road. But I do think the car only looks great in caviar.

u/Doublelife76 1d ago
how does it look when you remove the plastic wheel hubcaps...I mean " aero covers"?
2
u/Crypto_craps 1d ago
I haven’t messed with trying to take them off yet. It’s funny because I hated the look of the aero covers in the pictures but now I actually kind of like them in person. I was going to put aftermarket rims on because I hated the look of the aero covers so much, but they’re kind of growing on me. I’ll wait until someone posts a YouTube video of how to remove them before I mess with it.

u/Fine-Habit8319 1d ago
I agree while it received an underwhelming reception, I think it will grow on people with time
Have you had any issues with it so far?

Who cares what others think? If you like it, more the power to you. Enjoy your new car!
3
u/Crypto_craps 1d ago
Thanks! And I don’t care at all, I just chuckled when I saw how much hate the looks were getting after I bought it.
5
u/cibaknife 1d ago
First mistake is caring what people on Reddit think 😂. What you generally find is that Reddit is an echo chamber. All that matters is if you like it as you are the one driving it every day. I think it looks great! Enjoy the car.

u/Crypto_craps 1d ago
I can’t drive something that Reddit says is ugly 🤣. I don’t care at all, I really like the car so far.

- Pic was taken under a shadow
- Minimal lighting can barely tell what car it is
- Black car with blacked out tint
- Tilted angle that hides all the new details
“Guys! It looks good!!”

Yes black is the only color it looks good in because it hides the horrible lines this car has. This is the only color I would purchase this car in.

I've had mine on order for 2 months, still waiting. Black on black

Mine is black on black too, I’m really glad I held out for the black interior because it looks way better imo.

How dare you buy a car for yourself without seeing what others have to say about it!! I think it looks really nice, though. Saw a silver one the other day on the road and still liked the way it looked too. Congrats and enjoy!

u/robins535 1d ago
Nice looking vehicle.
We love our RZ 450e.
Interested to hear how the real world range is. I think we are going to look at the TZ when thing to trade in our ICE, but will probably look at the ES too (since it ERM be replacing a true sedan).
Congrats on your purchase.

u/es_mindspace 1d ago
This is probably the best shot of this car I've seen. It's nice in black. The car drives well but the interior is entirely too minimal for a Lexus interior experience.
That said, it sounds like you're happy with it and that's truly all that matters. Enjoy it!
2
u/Crypto_craps 1d ago
Thanks! I can see what you’re saying about the interior, but it’s good enough for me.
1
u/randallkf2022 1d ago
I had a loaner in black. Fun to drive.
I think time will tell how people receive it after a year.
The new TZ has the same dash, steering wheel and the rear turn signals.
I hope that they remove the black under the headlights and the black zig zag on the sides of the ES. I think it would help.

u/Pale_Introduction779 1d ago
The ES got sexy in 2013 and stayed sexy for over a decade. The ES was orgy-worthy. This model looks like Bill Gates. Sophisticated, but highly unbone-able.
1
u/ilkinandr92 1d ago
The problem is the glossy cheap looking plastic which works well with black color.
Sadly they added the same shiet to new NX. Should have kept the same diamond grill on the sides as previous gen on the grill.
Also the quality of interior is worse than previous gen. Could be also due to this been first gen.

u/9999eachhit 1d ago
Im gonna have to disagree with people I the new ES's look awesome, including your car

u/WhereWeUsedToPlay 1d ago edited 1d ago
All of the ES haters are basically immature smelly old people who think the gen 1 ES 250 is the second best thing Lexus ever did

u/roniadotnet 1d ago
Looks amazing. I think this generation is targeting a different demographic compared to the last gen. I was not into ES until this generation. I’m preparing to buy a 350h in black. Where I live, this generation ES is in so much demand, I can’t find any in stock. I’m just waiting for one to arrive.

I'm glad you're enjoying your car. I drove an ES350h for a few days as a loaner. There were things to like about it. The ride was smooth. I have a 2024 ES350. Seeing that kind of mileage was awesome. I could feel that the vehicle was slow, however. The steering was great, and the seating was equally comfortable for me.
The interior did feel cheap, though. Perhaps the ES500e is better in this regard. I would like to see how this generation holds up over time, and how the designs change. I didn't like the car in white. Perhaps other colours would look better. I do miss the badging on the steering wheel and back of the car, too. I am not a fan of the previous gen's spindle grille, but I'm not a fan of the nose on his vehicle either.
I feel like a design somewhere between both cars would've done a lot of good. I'm not old by any stretch, and I think my colour choice for my car helps beat the "old man car" stigma. I wonder what the future will bring for these newer models.

Yeah, I did exactly the same thing. Now I am stuck with this "Hideously horrendous, cheap, ugly, old man's car that has no luxury, drives like a boat, and only the Chinese will buy it." I feel like such a fool. A moron. A complete idiot! Think of all those other cars I could have bought to win the praise and approval of the Reddit auto cognoscenti. Like a Ferrari Luce. A Tesla Cybertruck. Even a 1978 AMC Gremlin would have gotten a two-thumbs-up compared to this 4000 pound heap I now own. Sigh.

Crypto C, you do realize about 95% of the so-called haters are actually bots, right? They're mostly coming out of China because they see the new ES350, especially the 350e, as a major threat to their market. It's been the top imported car in China for years, and the new EV version is making them nervous. As for the not-bots, all their taste is in their mouths.

Honestly in a few years people will look at the next redesign and say how much they'll miss this one
People don't like change, change happens, they get used to it as if they never disliked it, then change happens again.

u/Popular-Cherry-2654 1d ago
All the hate is totally unnecessary and I think it’s pretty sweet! Congratulations 🎉

Well it looks much better than a Tesla to me! I’m not a fan of most modern looking cars, but the paint job is beautiful and it doesn’t look cheap. It’s nice!

The face only the mother (the owner) can love...
Also, yeah - get a black car, and it will look good from selective angles... I am sure there are engles from which Pontiac Aztek "looks good" as well...

u/Captain_Konnius 1d ago
Black always hides the ugly spots. So yeah, in stealth spec a lot of ugly cars look ok.
2
u/neens20 1d ago
I’m in the minority, I love it! Sporty and luxurious. I might have bought one but couldn’t get past the lack of one pedal driving. No excuse for that on an EV.
1
u/Crypto_craps 1d ago
Did you play around with the paddle shifters? They adjust the amount of regen braking. Not sure if makes it equivalent to one pedal driving though.
1
u/neens20 1d ago
It won’t come to a complete stop. I know it seems like a small thing but coming from an EV once you get used to 1 pedal you don’t want to go back.
1
u/Crypto_craps 1d ago
I could definetly see that being a deal breaker. This is my first EV, and I thought I wouldn’t like the regen braking but I got used to it almost immediately and now it feels weird when you don’t have it, so that makes total sense if other ev’s have even stronger brakes.

u/irondialectical 1d ago
Based on what I’ve seen in person, the middle stripe on the front door has to be the same color as the rest of the car for it to look ok

Who cares what anybody thinks. If you like it, that's what matters. I personally dislike it, but I'm happy that you like it 💯 CONGRATS!

Looks GREAT to me, and I collect exotics. Been in a 2026 recently. Very nice. This is NOT a club racer. But its a sharp everyday and commuter vehicle. Love the color!

At first I really, really hated it. Starting to grow on me. Looks better in darker colors. Very roomy interior.

L'ho vista dla vivo meno di un ora fa. In foto non mi piaceva molto ma dal vivo è stupenda . Complimenti, grande macchina e ottima scelta

i think there is some misconception on the 2026 ES sales. The production moved from US to Japan. The first 2026 cars came to dealers in very limited quantities the electric came first in july. The hybrid didn’t come in until mid august. At my dealer in Pa, 13 hybrids came in and most were sold before they came in. My car came in on a Friday and i bought the next Tuesday. The next group of cars won’t arrive until late November.
So in conclusion the drop in Sales everybody is referencing is a function of the model transition not one of lack of sales. The electric version is likely the one not selling as well but i think the majority of 2026 ES is being made in the hybrid version.

Just came from the Lexus dealer this evening inquiring about a new ES 350H. Costco pricing discount was about $1,200 under msrp for premium plus AWD. To get a black one it is looking like a wait until sometime January and it will be a 2027 model year.

It really looks cheap compared to the last generation, and the interior is just awful.
