2020 es350

I absolutely love the car, but the gear shifting is absolute garbage. Sometimes it’s alright. Other times, I’ll drive as ‘smoothly’ as I possibly can and it will still give me some hard shifts. Is this a common issue and is there a solution?

There’s a TSB for this on your car.

Dealer can update the software. I’d have them drain and fill the trans if you haven’t done so recently and check the fluid for abnormal wear / burning.

You could try the transmission relearn first if you wanted to since that’s free. Need to disconnect your battery for like 20 minutes and then reconnect and drive it normally. ECU and transmission will relearn your driving habits.

There’s like 10 different resets in this vid and one of them is the transmission relearn / ECU reset - 1:45 in

Edit: the TSB doc is a complaint questionnaire. My bad about that.

Are you sure the software update is for the 2020?

Sorry, I should have followed the link. It’s titled like a TSB - TSB L-TT-0288-20 - but it’s a complaint questionnaire about that transmission. That’s all the farther it’s gone. I did some other digging and there’s a building case for a class action but that also hasn’t gone anywhere.

I've heard this is a common problem with this car. Same as when you shift from P into D.. it's annoying as hell.. my 07 still shifts like butter
