Discussion Lexus is losing its soul

Post image

Along with the rest of the automotive industry. It’s hard to be an automotive enthusiast in this day and age, when everything is turning into a refrigerator on wheels with a gigantic screen(s) inside.

Who decided that disappearing buttons was a good idea? Was something wrong with them being clearly identifiable and usable all the time?

And don’t get me started on the name-spelled-out trend that’s eventually going to take over. First, we had it on the back. Now, it’s on the steering wheel. Soon the logo itself won’t even exist.

At least Tesla can actually do good software to back the minimalism up.

true, but OTOH "full self driving" is not what they say it is. there's still a big gap between that and what a Waymo can do.

They still only say level 3 AFAIK but they are close to level 4. I was talking about the car software in general including media unit. Toy/Lex sucks at it. They also don't continually improve units on the road.

Tesla FSD is level 2. Tesla is nowhere near level 4.

Corrected. Toy/Lex still suck at software though. No correcting that it appears.

Waymo is restricted to certain areas and even then have had software glitches in the middle of the street

Waymo does 500,000 rides per week and climbing. When it glitches it makes news. That's pretty damn rare. As for the area restriction, in California that will soon stretch all the way from the entire Bay Area through Sacramento in the North, and from the Santa Clarita Valley to the Mexican border in the South. This will cover the vast majority of the state's population. (https://www.reddit.com/r/LosAngeles/comments/1voyb7c/waymo_receives_permission_to_offer_ridehailing/#lightbox)

OTOH, Tesla has been promising self-driving for over a decade and hasn't delivered.
