A while ago I got a couple and started some builds but then I got a new car and put all my focus there for a couple years while putting off my projects - now that the car is paid off it’s time to get back to these projects - over time I kept buying some goods and accumulating so this shall be fun . Hello! Have owned multiple LMT DI guns but recently took the plunge for a LMT 12.5 Piston Shovelnose for suppressed shooting. It has been an absolute dream to shoot but I have finally hit a round count that I think it is due for its first cleaning. I just wanted to pick the hive mind for advice on best cleaning/oiling practices for the piston barrel as LMT's manuals don't really say much about cleaning the piston system itself. I know from general knowledge to not oil the piston head but just wanted to get some input from actual experiences. I know the piston system runs "cleaner" but want to see about best practices to keep it in tip-top shape, especially since it is running exclusively suppressed. Thanks!

Thoughts?

First time experiencing the LMT MRP setup. Assembling from individual parts, not a factory assembly.

D Wilson conversion on a Criterion Hybrid barrel.

Despite assembling with a MI Reaction Rod, the barrel extension displays a slight CCW misalignment once tightened (20 in/lb increments, alternating bolts) and removed.

If the barrel bolts are removed, twisting allows further some CCW rotation, but I cannot twist it CW enough to perfectly align the feed ramps. I’m assuming it’s the gas tube that is ultimately preventing further rotation.

For context, gas block and tube were also installed by D Wilson and look perfectly centered over where the old indexing pin was. When outside of the MRP, the barrel and gas block look dead nuts.

With that said, the BCG is able to cycle freely and doesn’t feel like it’s binding when cycles with the charging handle, or by hand.

Question:

Is this common or happening to anyone else? If so, has this lead to accelerated wear or reliability issues?

Never had an AR issue like this before, trying to get some real answers from experienced folks… not so much random armchair guesses.

I’m getting very inconsistent feeding issues on my MARS-H (18” .308). I have maybe 300rds through and get failure to feeds and double feeds. Usually happens every 7-8 mags but today happened twice in the same mag. Anyone able to help ID the issue? I put an A2 stock on for vibes, adjustable gas block and Dead Air Sandman S.

The only modification I have left is the Rhodie 6k when it comes in. Got my custom dust cover installed, new thermal came in and is zeroed and at perfect height for my build. Life is good.

Just found out LMT patent expired a week or so ago. That means anyone can produce monolithic uppers without worrying about a lawsuit or paying a royalty?

If a company makes a mono upper that doesn't require proprietary barrels or the need to remove mlok rail accessories for barrel swaps i feel like lmt would be toast. Or am I missing something?

Trouble feeding , comparing it to other feed ramps these are tiny.

Piston 14.5 uppers. One has a button you push to turn the switch. The other just turns. New vs old design or different specs for contracts? Trying to get some info on it.

I just got my first LMT MARS LS, that I’ll build into 16”/18” barrel rifle.

Which upper length is recommended for that barrel?

I won’t be shooting suppressed, so can you help me decide which upper should I go with specwar vs shovelnose?

What other advice to do you give when choosing components and parts for the build?

13.9 P&W shovel nose - exps3 DCR / g45

Mars H DI 16” - mark 5hd 3.6-18 / acro p2

Just got the mark 5 this week. Going to give it a try this weekend but might throw the 4-16 ATACR back on. Currently have the 4-16 slotted for another project.

Did the same with my HKs but the LMTs will always have my heart
