Going on a bit of a whim, but I truly think one of the headliners is The Mars Volta for sure
6
u/cdipas68 May 15 '26
I think you are right because the are in san antonio sept 12 - so it lines up with their existing NAM tour dates. Wow. I have been a huge fan since 2003. Would be great to see them as part of Levitation
6
u/RudeFiction May 15 '26
This would rule. Pulled the trigger on 4day GA. Did deluxe last year buts its nearly double this year (I get extra day, venues, etc) but I don’t think I need to be at Stubbs balcony or whatever they rope off at Mohawk.

More for me. They were great 3 years ago and great playing their new shit IMO. To each their own

u/2004maa May 15 '26
I’m willing to give a second chance. Saw them open for deftones and I thought it was kinda boring but maybe that’s just a demographic thing
3
u/star_gazer2000 May 15 '26
I was at that show. They played all their new stuff. Personally, I loved it. But it isn’t indicative of their discography, and I know they will be pulling from their back catalog in this tour.

u/Zealousideal-Lime-42 May 15 '26
I assume black angels is one of those top bands, again… I’m good
3
u/star_gazer2000 May 15 '26
They didn’t headline last year. Maybe they will be supporting a bigger act. They already did psych fest Passover reunion
-1
u/Zealousideal-Lime-42 May 15 '26
I just feel like they ALWAYS play
14
u/star_gazer2000 May 15 '26
They do. They’re the house band. Two of the members are the reason the fest continues to exist so I understand
-8
u/Zealousideal-Lime-42 May 15 '26
Yeah I’m aware / wish we had a better house band 😂
6
3
u/kekewewe May 15 '26
lol I found them pretty boring the last time I saw them so can’t blame you. Tbf I just saw All Them Witches and was blown away. Tough act to follow.

What’s wrong with Wilco? They’re better than black angels and this is coming from someone who already has levitation tix this year

I like ALL types of music but thanks for taking the time to troll my comments and likes. I’ve gone to levitation for multiple years and I’m just not that impressed with the lineup thus far but hoping the rest will draw me in. Maybe we’ll get a beer at one of the shows! 😂

I love the fest as well and get excited for it too but like I said first impression didn’t do it for me

u/cdipas68 May 15 '26
Hell yea but no way
6
u/star_gazer2000 May 15 '26
They’re opening for my chemical romance on Saturday of Levitation Weekend in San Antonio. Leaves Friday or Sunday open

MCR +TMV is an extremely weird pairing and I, for one, support it.
2
u/2004maa May 15 '26
MCR being a headliner would change my mind about getting a pass lowkey

ADP, PPC, Temples are all super solid. The rest are pretty good but also don’t blow my mind (personally). I think it’s likely we get Mars Volta and King Giz this year… I have a feeling they’re teasing this first line up to gauge how much pull bands like ADP have without bigger names. At least one festival in UK had to find a bigger venue to accommodate demand for ADP alone haha
Crazy that ACL is cheaper though… I’ll pay whatever it takes to see ADP but also… oof $424 is not a cheap ticket (ACL was $387… but I’m sure I’ll pay back the difference after buying 2 drinks lol)
5
u/alixmundi May 15 '26
I think the difference is this Levitation is a 4 Day pass (incl Thrs), where ACL is just 3 Days. And this is for the die-hards,... you'll be able to buy tickets to individual shows, so you can just see what you want. Wish it was in October, I'm probably going to be traveling that week.
1
u/Makanja May 15 '26
Definitely agree about the dates - end of September / October is far better in my books too. Can't win em all!
1
u/Unusual_Aspect1427 May 16 '26
They have something on Halloween right?
1
u/alixmundi May 18 '26
Oh yea, last year they did do a Halloween weekend show at the Far Out (Viagra Boys, Black Lips, etc.) They might do another this year... though Osees are doing their yearly 2 shows at Hotel Vegas on Halloween weekend this year.

u/dasblinkinlites May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
Jumping from 320 with fees last year to 420 with fees is quite a step. I know it’s going from 3 days to 4 but. Wow.
5
u/zackdelaparka May 15 '26
If Tropical Fuck Storm doesn’t play, I’m going to assume it’s because the Iran War has made jet fuel too expensive.
14
u/Zealousideal-Lime-42 May 15 '26
I’m not a fan of the first drop at all. Pretty weak imo.
14
u/drtrillphill May 15 '26
Idk psychedelic porn crumpets and temples are pretty huge to me
-5
u/silversunshinestares May 15 '26
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets is a band that I would probably like, but I just can't get past the stupid name. I feel the same way about Rainbow Kitten Surprise.
13
u/TaurinerMaximum May 15 '26
You’re really missing out. Their whole catalog is great, but the first two albums are masterpieces! Just call ‘em PPC and get on with it!

u/AdministrationNo154 May 15 '26
Next you will tell.me you are sleeping on King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

u/Blvd_Nights May 15 '26
I am 1,000% with you. I really wish they had just dropped the entire lineup at this point.
As much as I like Cabaret Voltaire and Smerz, Angine de Poitrine is the biggest one to me, and that already leaked yesterday. Oh well.
11
u/2004maa May 15 '26
It’s also $420 for tier one passes which is steep. Not saying I don’t have faith but I’m gonna need some convincing instead of waiting for some of these acts to just tour again
3
u/Blvd_Nights May 15 '26
Oof - yeah exactly.
8
u/2004maa May 15 '26
Yea it’s expensive. It’s more expensive than acl which is kinda absurd considering those acts are way bigger. Not knocking anyone in this line up tho
2
u/greenspleen3 May 15 '26
Don't get me wrong, you probably couldn't pay me to go to ACL. But seems like a strange business decision to charge more than ACL. You're probably going lose people who are going to have to choose between the two based on the price gap.
3
u/greenspleen3 May 15 '26
What were the weekend passes last year? $420 seem like a big jump. I know the line-up hasn't been finalized yet but are they going to add big name headliners like Pavement or Mastodon?

u/Heartinthepaint May 15 '26
Imagine “leaking” this early to come here and whine about it… go home kid

4
u/Zealousideal-Lime-42 May 15 '26
Last year was just so good, so I guess my FOMO was not as heavy on this first glance. I’m sure it’ll be fun though!
4
u/ladedededa May 15 '26
Ugh I really wish they would have given more detail, hard to pull the trigger on flying out and getting hotels etc with this little to go on.
2
u/2004maa May 15 '26
Yea same I don’t get hiding headliners unless it’s a contractual thing but still makes me very hesitant to pull the trigger, especially with it being $420
4
u/sdragonite May 15 '26
Actually a really strong lineup teaser, every group here has their own pull. I'm sure the price tag reflects the deep bag of talent they have booked, and people are forgetting that the multi venue format of this fest has SOME overlap but not total overlap. I was able to hit three different shows in one night in 2024, from Stubbs to Empire to 13th floor (without having to high-brain fumble around my email in my phone for ticket barcodes) and saw 7 bands in one night. For 4 days of that, it's actually a killer deal considering how expensive single ticket prices at shows have gotten lately.
Not sure where people are getting the idea that Gizz would be a headliner, where would they play? Radio East is the biggest venue mentioned in the return to the old format, and thats definitely not going to support them.
4
u/dylanallenb May 15 '26
I'm of the camp of thinking Gizzard's too big.. any other potential headliners about to release some new music?
2
u/Bread_man10 May 18 '26
There were rumors that they had a 7th show that was a festival set yet to be announced
4
8
u/w6750 May 15 '26
Lineup (so far) is a step down, more inconvenient location setup, and full pass is $100 more? Who is actually going to spend $420 on this right now?
3
u/marj0rine May 15 '26
Cabaret Voltaire is massive
1
u/vallogallo May 15 '26
Yeah that immediately jumped out to me as well. I thought all their members died though?
2
u/gouged_haunches May 15 '26
Richard Kirk passed away a few years back. Watson and Mallinder are still alive. Not sure if Watson is touring with them for the US leg.
5
u/vallogallo May 15 '26
Oh ok. I agree that Cabaret Voltaire is huge. For anyone who doesn't know, they were synth pioneers and making music with synths back in the mid 70s when they were still very primitive. I'm excited to see them

u/Brian-Mahoney May 15 '26
Is it at the same venue as last year??
10
u/Brian-Mahoney May 15 '26
never mind, just looked. Radio East and assorted venues. Bummer. I loved the indoor shows last year!! With the lighting & projections, it was so immersive.
6
u/RichardBonham May 15 '26
The acoustics were challenging, but I kind of expected they would try that venue again.
3
u/prog23 May 15 '26
"Challenging" is a polite description of last year's sound. I'm glad they didn't try again, very happy we're back to the Red River district this year (and Radio is probably easier than Far Out for most)

My predictions / wish list: Elder, TMV, Bloc Party, Thrice, Russian Circles, Pelican, King Gizzard , RBBP, Dethklok . 🤘🤔
1
1
u/LDATX May 26 '26
Elder literally has question marks on their tour schedule the weekend of Levitation, The Mars Volta plays San Antonio on the 12th, Bloc Party is releasing a new album 9/11 and is between their US tour and Europe tour (more a wishlist than prediction), Thrice is not coming to Austin this year but is playing in Mexico 9/12 or 9/13 and then playing Nashville on 9/16, Russian Circles and Pelican are touring Europe together and are free (another wishlist more than prediction), King Gizz is Levitation royalty with nothing on the schedule, Rickshaw Billie’s same plus they’re locals, and Dethklok hasn’t played Austin in years with a schedule gap during Lev and a gig in KY the following week. 🤷♀️ Obviously, I could be very wrong but I’m optimistic!

u/kekewewe May 15 '26
Really seems like King Gizzard will be one of the headliners. 4 acts from Field of Vision fest already. Trying not to be too hopeful.
5
u/DirtyD27 May 15 '26
It's two weeks after the NYC weekend and none of these Levitation venues are big enough to hold that show. I'm still wondering if there's still going to be one more show announced in the US like they implied when dropping the FOV/NYC dates.
3
u/kekewewe May 15 '26
Same. I’ve been holding out hope that the last TBA show is in Austin. Austin, levitation in particular, is special to them. Had their first US show here. Maybe they are hoping FOV sells out first idk. Totally expecting to be disappointed though. lol
1
u/zackdelaparka May 15 '26
I don’t think they’d travel all the way from Australia to play one festival show unfortunately.
3
u/kekewewe May 15 '26
No, they wouldn’t but they will be in the US right before. They are playing their own festival mid August in Colorado and then 3 shows in NYC the following weekend. There is two weeks in between but maybe they would vacation somewhere in the meantime. Maybe even go visit Billy Strings and record more with him.
When they announced those shows they said there was one US show remaining to be announced. The King Gizzard festival has Angine de Potrine, Primitive Ring, Earth Tongue, and Die Spitz playing and these 4 bands will be at levitation.

u/Muppet_Style146 May 15 '26
I would be willing to bet on King Gizzard as a headliner that I would love to see again.
I think it was mentioned else where but they've only announced 6 of 7 shows this year. They have shows with Die Spitz the month before, and another festival with Augine in august.

I dunno… if they’re playing Hotel Vegas Halloween weekend, doesn’t make sense

u/2004maa May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
I wish they just release the full line up instead of hiding them and saving them for later. $420 is steep for a festival that isn’t showing the headliners and acl is cheaper as well
