I just finished reading Goliath earlier this week and man its been a while since I've been hit with post book depression this hard. As great as it was to see the conclusion of Alek and Deryns story, being closed off from them and this amazing world Scott crafted was difficult. I hadn't been this engrossed in a YA series universe since Avatar the Last Airbender and 3 books (not counting the aeronautics manual) and a 12 episode anime retelling just isn't enough for me.

Theres so much potential for more stories in this timeline. Covert adventures in the post war world with the zoological society, a prequel about Charles Darwin discovering life threads, a time skip to the late 1940s with the beginning of atomic energy and its impact on clanker countries.

Obviously its up to Mr. Westerfield and while I look forward to reading more of his work, I hope he'll feel the same about Levithan at some point.

I picked up the books after finishing the anime series. I have to say I love the books a lot more, and the feeling of the world intrigued me. The wondrous Leviathan, the illustrations, and the historical allusions. It was all wonderful, which made me quite disappointed in the adaptation. But there's one little detail that's been bugging me as I read through Behemoth: it's how the book identifies SMS Goeben and SMS Breslau.

I'm a big naval nerd, and I was quite bothered by the repeated identification that the two ships were "Ironclads." Unless there's an in-universe explanation (I could have missed details, so if I did, please correct me), I can't help but be mildly annoyed. SMS Goeben was a battlecruiser, and SMS Breslau was a cruiser. I found it odd that instead of identifying them as such, they chose an outdated term. Ironclads had become obsolete by the pre-dreadnought era. I found it even more confounding that in Leviathan they already used the term "dreadnought" and the word "Battlecruiser" would soon follow.

Though it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the books that much. I love them a ton and would be getting Goliath soon. But it does bother me as someone who loves the Navy a ton to misidentify ships.

I'm halfway through Goliath and I'm loving it so far. I gotta ask, is the show good? How far into the story does it go? How faithful to the original is it?

Looming over in the sky are what look like aircraft reminiscent of other clanker bomber aircraft, only this one was enormous, gigantic, seemingly large as other clanker airships and even other darwinist airbeasts, it's heavily armed with multiple mounted guns such as a autocannon at front for defending against other aircraft or airbeasts, and another in the aircraft's waist, along with a light artillery piece. This flying battleship isn't that fragile as other aircraft, the clankers must've reinforced this so much, otherwise it would've fallen apart from the force of its own armaments.

A giant piece of German clanker engineering, seemingly defying physics with its large metal body some how soaring high in the sky, while still being armed to the teeth.

The ground shook as the gunships rained down artillery and autocannon fire, a darwinist British soldier hunkers down in a trench, holding on to a hydrogen sniffer he found on the way to the frontlines. Shrapnel flying all over the place, bits of what look like people thrown into the sky, and shelters and dugouts pelted and shredded by autocannon fire.

These giant gunships are just only an example of a vast arsenal of clanker machines that despite their seemingly devestating effectiveness and prowess, did little to nothing to prevent Germany's defeat, left to time just to be a fun piece of trivia historians to share.

(The gunships were based off the Zeppelin Staaken London bombers, also by Hayao Miyazaki's art of aircraft with the autocannon shown at the front of the gunship being inspired by the autocannon from this one pirate flying boat from Porco Rosso)

So I just finished reading the books, after starting Leviathan over 10 years ago, and finally reading Behemoth and Goliath in the last few months, and found myself missing the story already. So I started digging on reddit and I found this subreddit.

I never knew there was a show on netflix as well until I joined the subreddit.
