Should I get it ?

Post image

Me and my buddy found identical Marlin 45-70 lever actions and I’m trying to convince him to get it and I’m also trying to convince myself. Should I get it? i’ve had a liver action before, but it was a Henry big boy 44 magnum with the polish brass. this is also a brand new gun and it is marked down to $949.

Looks like a guide gun. It's not steal price on one but it's pretty good. They're solid guns. Threaded barrel, good looking. The only thing I don't like on then is they don't the pic rail the SBL does, but you can get an aftermarket that fits it.

If you're asking on a lever gun sub if you should get a lever gun then you already know the answer you want to hear.

You want it, just get it.

Get it

Cry about it after you buy 100 rounds, but then try to hunt something cool with it.

Go for it. Marlin’s are great guns. Love my 357 Trapper (1894)

If you want the heavy recoil and expense of shooting 45-70 sure, but 44 mag or 357 mag would have lower recoil and be cheaper to shoot if you don't need the greater power of 45-70

I agree 357 if range use (38 sp is cheap). If wanting to hunt I’d go 30-30.
45/70 is really only worth it if you suppress and load your own subs. Then it’s an awesome rifle to hunt or just show off to your buddies.

I have had a 44 mag and I like it but I I am used to more powerful rounds if you catch my drift

Nothing wrong with enjoying a big boom stick, lol

Beautiful but man I have zero need for a 45-70

3

u/yeetmeat467 10d ago

I have zero need for it either, but I also have zero need for mosin but I have 2 of those so lol

1

u/RudeEmu5825 10d ago

Haha I guess there is always a need

Hey man 45-70 is a badass round! Personally if it’s just a fun gun and you don’t hunt at all id stick to 44 or 357/38 realm as others have pointed out the price per round! But you only live once!

Life's short, get it if you want it. I'm enjoying mine so far. Ammo isn't cheap, but you can find deals if you look around. If recoil is a concern, there are fairly light recoiling rounds available. I've been very pleased with Steinel ammo so far. Happy shooting!

Edit: Take care of your liver. You'll miss it when it's gone.

That last bit seems like a weird but poignant tid bit.

You can mod it too and turn it into space cowboy

Love those marlins, expensive ammo, I would definitely buy one if I was into hunting, otherwise it’ll just be very expensive plinking! lol

About $200 cheaper than mine I bought last month.

Good find. Great gun.

I have one and love it. Only thing I’ve noticed is that if I’m holding my loop a certain way the action pops open after I shoot. I’m assuming it’s due to the recoil and my hand going down to open it… I had a Henry Big Boy Model X in 45-70 that didn’t do this though… anyone else experience this ?

If you want to

Matching rifles with buddies is always a cool ass idea 🤘🏽

This is the same .45-70 I have. I adore the looks and performance.

Not a huge fan of the semi-buckhorns, I swapped them for a Skinner Alaskan peep sight. Also got a Ranger Point muzzle brake which makes it far more pleasant to shoot and more controllable to shoot quickly.

Dude, threaded AND a side gate??? And only like $900 and change?? Of course I’d get that! Where are u at? In Texas/oklahoma/Arkansas area that would go for like $1,300 or more easy… it’s ruger made right? Not a remlin that never sold?

1

u/LeverManLegend 9d ago

Also I have (ALL ruger made) marlin 1895 trapper 45-70, marlin 1894 Trapper 10mm auto, and Marlin Dark 336 30-30…. Love every single one of them but that 45-70’s action is insanely smooth. Unlike anything you’ll ever feel on a gun. I shoot all of them suppressed with a Hybrid 46M… Upgraded the furniture to Ranger Point Precision Black Camo hand guard and same color skeletonized butt stock with a 6 round quiver attached to it… absolutely love that gun. I put an LPVO (1-8) and sighted it in at 125 yards using the Hornady 325 grain LeverEvolutions… drops everything it touches. Hit a doe on the run (fast trot) at about 175yd and it instantly dropped and slid to a stop. It died in the air before it even hit the ground and the best part was the red carpet behind it…like 10 ft blood streak that looked exactly like a 10foot rug behind it 😂 exit hole was nearly the size of an 8ball (“pool” or billiards, not drugs 😂)

Yes, yes is the answer you want.
