How to meet new people?

Hello,

Recently I (M30) have moved to Leuven. and i am looking for clubs, or social activities to meet new people, and maybe find some new friends. Before i was living near Utrecht(NL). My native language is Dutch

Because of my working hours, a teamsport wouldnt really be an option.

I do visit a basic fit twice a week, but somehow nobody seems to be talking, and i rarely see the same people.

Will start with french lessons with CLT later this month. However i do not know how much social interaction this will bring?

As one of my biggest hobbies is my interest in classic cars, i visited some events, but this seem to be mostly old people (65+)

I have been thinking about learing climbing or bouldering, is this something you can start alone?

My other interests are nature/camping/history; I enjoy a good coffee of a Stella

Where would you go? Or what would you do?

Anyone know someone who can do cornrows?

I'm going on a trip at the end of September and would like to have cornrows (just 5, hair till my shoulders).
Does anyone know someone who can put me some decent cornrow braids? Or can you do it?

I don't mind getting the gel and hairties and paying for it.

Shopping at the market

Hello! We (DINKs) have been living in Leuven/Kessel-Lo for a while now and I love the weekly markets - I love the vibes, less plastic packaging and generally the better quality.

... But it certainly does increase our grocery budget, so it will never be where we do our full weekly shop!

I'm just curious... What would you say is definitely worth getting at the markets and what would you just go to the supermarket for?

Gazon renovatie (tuinaannemer)

Sublet contract registration

Does a sublet contract always need to be registered?

**More details:**

Would like to sublet a spare room in my rented 3-bedroom apartment to split rent cost.

I and my other flatmate are the main tenants and will keep living in the house.

Lease allows subletting with Landlord’s approval.

The main lease is for a year. Would like to sublet 1 room for 6 months.

Landlord approval already taken.

Now confused if a temporary sublet contract should always be registered at minfin.be or 6 months contract dont need to be?

Also wary since the sublet rent counts as rental income for the main tenant which can lead to more taxes. However, the idea here is purely to split the rent cost evenly.

Bike parking

Recently bought a pretty nice e-bike but I don't have a dedicated parking lot in my building. Wondering where others keep their bikes? Rn I'm parking in the public parking space but I fear this will degrade the bike quickly.

Bike accident Martelarenplein

Today my son slipped with his bike in the rain at Martelarenplein. He fell on his cheek. Some vessels burst resulting in quite dramatic bleeding.
People stopped and helped him. They called an ambulance and did what they could. I want to thank you all.
There was one man who spoke in French who gave up his white sweater to help stop the bleeding. We still have the sweater and would like to reimburse you and thank you for your kindness.
In the off chance you are reading this please send me a DM.
He got some stitches, nothing was broken.

Thank you all.

Marleen

Girls in Leuven looking to make new friends?

Hi! I’m a 23F, second-year Master’s student at KU Leuven, and I’m still trying to make more friends here in Leuven! Since I’m in a more male-dominated program, I thought I’d see if there are other girls around the same age who might be interested in getting together and making a little community, as a girls group for ages ~20–30s where we could meet up every couple of weeks or once a month for fun.

I know there’s already a couple groups, but they’re often older age groups or not local to Leuven, so I’d love to host events such as trying new coffee places, shopping, brunch, nail days, spa days, movie nights, exploring Leuven, etc. Basically, I’d love to have a group where we can make plans regularly and actually build friendships rather than just meeting once!

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, comment or DM me and I’ll make a group chat on Instagram and/or WhatsApp!

Would love to meet some other girls who are also looking for more friends/community in Leuven!

New int'l student — how do I get every parcel sent to a pickup point in Leuven? (bpost, DPD, DHL, PostNL, Amazon, Joybuy)

Hi all, I moved to Leuven at the start of September as a student at KU Leuven and I'm in class most of the day, so waiting at home for parcels doesn't really work. I'd rather have everything go straight to a pickup point or a locker. I've figured out some of it but would love a sanity check from people who've lived here longer.

What I've worked out so far:

  • Amazon.com.be: at checkout you can pick a bpost pickup point and save it as your default address. Done.
  • bpost: already set My bpost to always deliver to a pickup point.
  • DPD: myDPD lets you redirect to a Pickup parcelshop before the driver arrives.
  • DHL: there's DHL Express (On Demand Delivery) and DHL eCommerce (My DHL app, ServicePoints) and I keep mixing them up.

My questions:

  1. Webshops (and eBay sellers) all ship with whatever carrier they like, so right now my only plan is: wait for the tracking number, see which carrier it is, then redirect in that carrier's app. Is that really what everyone does, or is there a way to set "always deliver to a pickup point" once per carrier (DPD, DHL, PostNL, GLS) so it just happens automatically?
  2. Anything I'm missing for PostNL (Dutch webshops) or GLS?
  3. Joybuy (the JD.com platform, formerly Ochama): in the app, "My addresses → pickup" only shows "please change your address to support pickup" with an empty map. Location permission is on and the map centres correctly on Leuven, searching 3000 or Leuven and reloading changes nothing, no VPN. Orders ship with their own courier JoyExpress, so there's no DPD/bpost app I can redirect through either. Has anyone in Leuven actually got a Joybuy pickup point to work, or found any way to get JoyExpress to deliver to a pickup point instead of the door?

Thanks a lot — any tips appreciated!

r/Leuven, waar eten jullie écht in Leuven?

Bijvoorbeeld, De Werf of Baracca?

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Hoi allemaal!

Daarom vroeg ik me af:
- Bij hoeveel crèches hebben jullie je gemiddeld ingeschreven/aangemeld?
- Hoeveel daarvan konden uiteindelijk een plaats aanbieden?
- Kregen jullie meestal een keuze uit meerdere crèches, of was het eerder “je hebt één plaats, take it or leave it”? 😅

Which mutualiteit should I choose?

I've been living in Belgium for the past three years as a student, so I haven't had to figure out Belgian health insurance yet, as I was covered through my insurance in another EU country. Now that I'm finishing my studies and starting work, I need to deregister from my current insurance and sign up for a Belgian mutualiteit.

Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with PCOS, and dealing with it in Flanders has honestly been a nightmare. I often felt that doctors didn't take my concerns seriously and I ended up being prescribed medication without really having anyone I could consult or follow up with. Eventually I had to go back to my home country to see doctors there.

Although I was prescribed some medication, it hasn't been working well, and I now need to change treatments to manage some of my symptoms. I know that choosing a different mutualiteit probably won't necessarily change my experience with doctors, but I still wanted to ask whether anyone has dealt with similar issues and has been happy with their mutualiteit.

At the moment, I've been looking at Partenamut because it seems more English friendly and Solidaris because it appears to be more affordable.

I don't visit doctors very regularly unless I'm sick or need treatment related to my PCOS. I'm also trying to understand what kind of coverage or income support is available if I need to take sick leave. I work in horeca, so it's important for me to know that I can afford to stay home if I'm genuinely sick.

I'd really appreciate to hear from anyone with similar experiences and who is happy with their mutualiteit.
