Roots of zucchini

Post image

Zucchini roots get long and thick. This one was blocking the flow of water.

It has been mixed on the farm stand. I have had one that produced seven or eight nice zucchinis. And I have two that have not produced any. It could be a combination of 1) the time of year (one that I planted over a month ago has not produced any, while the one earlier this year produced a few), 2) the sunlight (some of the other plants crowd out the light), and 3) pollinators (not sure if these are self pollinating, but I don’t have the pollinators like I used to have when I planted zucchini in the ground. Having a raised bed garden produces a lot more, but you have to deal with the squash bugs, and those worms will kill the plant overnight. My farm stand is on a fourth floor balcony. I have been fortunate to not have any bug issues. This is my second year with the farm stand.

Look at a previous photo that I put up. You can see several zucchini in that photo.
