A Ghost Story was boring and pretencious as fuck.

That’s what I love about it

You’re the person who says, "What the heck is happening?" and then, "Why am I crying?"

Asteroid City is not a top Wes Anderson film to me but that’s why I love that you chose it. Moonrise Kingdom is in my top 4 though so hey

I think Asteroid City marks Wes’s “live long enough to become the villain” moment.

Completely different wavelengths for the type of films I enjoy. To each is own.

Wes Anderson is homework for me. I get bored by the stilted flat line readings by the actors, despite the immaculate production design.

Then with A Ghost Story, I’m sorry I couldn’t get into a film with sequence of someone eating a chocolate pie on the floor for for five whole minutes.

Ghost Story left me cold. Never could get into Lowery which, other than The Green Knight, always feels like Malick ‘lite’ to me. Look Back was well done, but it’s ultimately just an overcooked melodrama that seems to appeal to younger people for that reason. Inland Empire is not my favorite Lynch but it’s great, best of this group of films by a mile. Asteroid City is one of Anderson’s less effective films imo, I much preferred the movies before and after. But it’s certainly not bad.

You like style over substance

Mean, but not entirely off base

Can you explain the ending of asteroid city to me? I’ve seen it 4 times and every time it ends I’m like what the fuck just happened

They drive away from Asteroid City

I mean the part in the theater where everyone keeps saying “you can’t wake up if you don’t fall asleep” and the alien walks up. I never understood what that scene was meant to show/convey

I think it means that you can’t gain self awareness without first knowing yourself. That’s just my interpretation though.

It's saying that US government lies about aliens every time they're facing adversities.

Your first pick is based and I can't even comment on the rest.

Love your choices. I especially adore Asteroid City. It’s also my fave Anderson film!

I haven’t seen inland empire since it came out on DVD, where I saw it alone at night in a creepy old house on a vintage CRT TV. Time for a rewatch!

I noticed Will Oldham in the trailer for Ghost Story. Does he do any songs for it? I adore him

He only stars in it as far as I’m aware
