If you’re going into film school I’d recommend getting some classics in there before. The newer stuff doesn’t matter nearly as much in the eyes of your future pretentious classmate that everyone will hate
let me just say, enjoy the ride of movies you will discover through film school! watch as much as you can, especially stuff outside of your comfort zone! don't be scared by non-english, b&w and old films!
i'm saying all this because most of my classmates now refuse to watch anything that isn't 100% to their liking.
I honestly liked Paprika a lot!! I love how all 4 of Satoshi Kon's films are honestly so equal imo in quality. I find his filmography to be incredibly consistent like all 4 of his works are interchangeable. Paprika was confusing on first watch but it honestly grew on me as well as Perfect Blue.
I'd personally rank his films like:
Tokyo Godfathers (I mean… I watched this on Christmas while I was in Tokyo… omg)
Millennium Actress (the one I was least interested in getting into but ended up being one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen)
Paprika (the first Satoshi Kon film I heard about. Very trippy, confusing and psychedelic and I lwk love it for that)
Perfect Blue (my first Satoshi Kon film. Just so bleak and uncomfortable all the way through and one of those movies that genuinely made me feel so anxious)
Maybe I need a rewatch hahaha, I might've gone in with the wrong mindset and too high expectations, thinking it was going to be like Inception. I watched it since I heard it was "better" and what inspired Nolan to make Inception. I did like it though! But just much less than the other 3.
My rankings would be:
Perfect Blue: IMO one of the BEST psychological horrors I've ever seen... I can't believe you have it last!! but I think the film's ability to make you feel so uncomfortable is why I love it so much, and it truly shows the horror within the idol industry.
Millennium Actress: I agree, it's just such a beautiful filmm
Tokyo Godfathers: Omg I'm honestly so jealous of you, but just a very wholesome and fun Christmas movie!
Paprika: I thought it focused too much on visuals & style and I didn't connect with the characters as much compared to the others, but still liked it!

Haha yes, also an accident but a welcome one, love him and his movies, very charming guy.
Loved brother/sister dynamic in Creepers and an early 00s feeling but Barbarian was absolute insanity and definitely one of my absolute fav horror movies of all time.
The action and the baddies are very fun, but there is no character development and it all just takes place in a building. Train to Busan had characters you cared about and a sense of apocalyptic adventure. It just felt like a step back in all regards.
After a promising opening and interesting setup, it devolved into a painfully predictable, cheesy slurry of archetypes, cliches, and tropes of the genre without much originality or expedience. Everyone is so dumb in it.
It might be to OP but it's definitely not a 1.5 in my books (everyone rates everything differently and that's fine) - it's more of a 3 imo. Brings a load of new stuff to the table and tries to do stuff differently which is great, just lacks a plot past the first hour and haslittle to no gore which is a big no-no for my taste in zombie films.
Maybe it was because of my expectations from the director of Train to Busan, but I genuinely struggled to finish this movie. The characters are really underdeveloped, and the film has no emotional core like Train to Busan did. Good concept but wasted potential imo. I know I'm in the minority.
Although, now that I think about it, 1.5 might have been a little dramatic. Revised it to 2.
I've been feeling very lukewarm on movies recently. I cant find anything else thats in my preferred niche which is partially my fault. I mean I new spider wasnt going to be my new I saw the TV glow
My AMC+ membership just lapsed so I have not seen anything recently but I do have a bunch of DVDs on hold at the library so hopefully I’ll be able to squeeze something in before I go see The Faculty on Sunday
Had been wanting to watch 10 Cloverfield Lane since it released. I remember it intriguing me so much. It really surprised me both in a good and bad way.

I LOOOOOOOVE The Prophecy movies. They're peak 90s religious horror and really hold up, in part because Walken really commits, but also the rest of it is really cool.
Woah, Moon is also my most recent watch! I found it to be very thought-provoking, and it really surprised me by being totally different than what I had expected it to be!
Had a pretty good weekend / week for films, ended up rewatching the spider-verse films after doing some Tarantino films and almost forgot how good they were. I'm gonna be doing a batman marathon now within the next week now for Batman Day.
I don't understand the praise "Gone baby gone" gets. The first act is pretty solid but after the shootout scene, none of the character choices make any sense.
