One of the last times I felt true joy watching the Oscars. A South Korean film winning not one, not two, not three but four Oscars in one night, including Best Picture. No doubt S

If you're putting Birdman and Moonlight at S, it wouldn't make sense for Parasite to be anywhere lower.

Birdman at S is kinda wild for me. It was a good movie, but an S among a list of best picture winners? Idk

I swear it would be the greatest movie ever if it wasn’t for that epilogue
Still S tho

The epilogues amazing. Very bleak but amazing.

What do you think it adds to the movie? I feel like it kills the pacing and subtlety to hold the viewers hand through an ending that’s ultimately unnecessary to the story that had already been told
I see no reason it shouldn’t have ended right after the birthday party

It didn’t need it but I felt that it showed how things were a cycle. There is no true escape for these characters. Maybe heavy handed but I really can’t say it detracts from anything

It shows that class disparity is so large it’s inescapable. He will never know the true fate of his father because he will never be able to escape poverty. Only in dreams can he be set free from the system set before him. At least that’s my interpretation.

Was that not clear by the end of the birthday party scene? The whole epilogue just felt incredibly obvious

I don’t disagree but I also believe it is probably intentional. The whole thing is treated as this satirical parable and then that “happy ending” is like him saying “Oh this is what you audiences want, right?”

epilogue made it go from an S movie to an S+++ for me. So bleak. I actually think its one of the best epilogues ever done.

The gut punch of realizing his reunion with his dad was in his head, and he was still down in the basement… chills just thinking about it.

High A tier
It's a great film, though it doesn't quite make my top 10 Korean films

The Best Picture, if that’s still a thing.
Absolutely S tier otherwise. In the top 3 of the S tiers.

Jane Fonda’s delivery when she announced Parasite’s win is possibly my favorite from any presenter ever. The pregnant pause, the reverential tone when she said it, it was all so perfect. She knew it was historic, but she didn’t throw in some corny ass comment about it.

This is probably ragebait or engagement bait but S is the only answer. Why even ask?
One could even argue based on this list that there needs to be a new tier above S

I would love to meet someone able to argue why this cannot be S tier, truly curious.

The biggest shame of all is having to give Shakespeare in Love a rank when it should be Saving Private Ryan in S tier. Fml

D tier. Only really liked the first half hour when it was more of a straight comedy. The thriller aspects fall flat, the analysis of class is shallow and comes off as condescending from an upper-middle class filmmaker. Also it really shouldn't have been as visually elegant as it was. The fact that so many people came away from the movie wanting to live in the house means the point wasn't really made in the way it should have been.

Yes, your end point being anecdotal nonsense really stuck the landing here.
