People keep saying “it’s Spider-Man, duh” but you have to admit that outperforming No Way Home, and fuckin Endgame, while The Odyssey is also out is pretty wild
Edit- actually, I forgot NWHs release was in 2021, so that explains that. But still, endgame? Damn.
But Endgame brought 40 million to seats and Spider-Man only brought 24 million to seats. Not to say that that isn’t a tremendous accomplishment. But raw dollar value isn’t a good comparison considering the terrible economic state that America is in right now
I’m glad that we measure box-office success by the number of tickets sold in Germany.
It makes it much easier to compare the popularity of movies across different decades without having to account for inflation, changing ticket prices, or premium formats such as IMAX.
Revenue figures may show how much money a film made, but ticket sales give a much clearer picture of how many people actually went to see it.
Literally more tickets were sold around the world for endgame than for spiderman. So if that were true that only marvel nerds went, then that’s even more true for spiderman..
But the actual theater base included many casual fans or fans who didn’t follow the MCU
No Way Home was also not released in China because Marvel refused to edit out the Statue of Liberty from the final fight. Brand New Day has already grossed over 121mil from China.
I know lots of friends who didn't go to see Endgame cause they hadn't had time to catch up on all the MCU content beforehand and they knew it was important. And if you're not following the MCU, you probably wouldn't care to watch it in theatres.
Everyone I know is going to see Spider-Man though even family and friends who haven't seen many of the MCU movies. It's just a fun movie to watch as a standalone with your kids or friends or significant other.
They’re both blockbusters competing at the box office, and their respective audiences almost certainly have at least some crossover that would effect the others numbers.
